    borrowing a handgun

the guy that works at the range in haciendia or rowland heights said it is illegal for me to borrow my friend's gun. is this true?

IE he lends it to me to shoot for a weekend while he is not there?

Sure you can. I think its something like a 30 day limit but for a weekend you should be fine. If you want to borrow an AW then that a big NO but handguns are fine.

EDIT: I think you need a HSC card too.

      Got a hunting license?
If so, you might be able to keep it until June 30, or beyond.
      Go check the DOJ FAQ's.
I know one can loan weapons for the duration of a hunting season. (There might be a 30 day limit on handguns). Ground squirrel, jack rabbits and coyote are open all year. If it's a centerfire, you're a dog hunter, rimfire for the smaller stuff.

You also may not be able to borrow "high capacity" (i.e. greater than 10 rounds) magazines from your friend. I'm sure a couple others here can vouch for this or help me dispell this statement, but I believe that is how CA law is written. You may only take momentary possession of the magazines if the original owner remains immediately present.

Correct, high capacity magazines cannot be loaned. Theres an exception if the owner is in the immediate presence of the person.
            Please, calm down.

Thanks for the info. Always curious about that grey area topic.
