What does older mean? S&W's older or not can be had at very reasonable prices, not in the same league as COLT, not by a long shot.

Colts don't seem to lose value. But you shouldn't sell your Colt 1911 anyways.

Colts have been remarkable in their value increase over the last 20 years or so. I started a small collection of Gold Cup 1911s and Pythons about 8 years ago, buying about 6 or 7 of them at that time, in the price range $600 to $800. Now they seem to be worth in the range of $800 to $1100, based on current sales I have seen.

I believe that some S&Ws will also show appreciation, especially the older revolvers without the lock.

Colts definitely do not lose their value and in many cases gain in value. Older S&Ws sell quickly because they are still reasonably priced, but in my opinion don't gain value at the same rate as Colts.

Well, I can tell you which gun is climbing in price as we speak.. Any model S&W 610. I bought mine new about 10 years ago for $500 + Dros and now they are fetching $800-$1000. S&W didn't make many of them and people are paying a premium to get their hands on them now.

Colt black powder, Colt Single Actions and 1911s. Even the pocket .32's, .380's, Series 70's, Pythons, etc...

Colt is probably the #1 collected handgun. They also increase in value much faster than any other brand.

Some Colts have increased $200-$500 a year, and have for the last 5-6 years....

P7 prices are stable and have been for years... the M10 and K3 command premiums, but P7M8/M13's haven't gone up in a while.... with the exception of California guns...

Prelock S&W "N" frames in highpolish blue, square butt. Colt Diamondbacks especially .22 models, Colt 1911 series 70's, Colt 1903 pocket pistols, would be my picks.

All of the high quality, difficult to manufacture guns tend keep value. Even my Colt 1991 ORM's sell for more than when I bought my 1st one new...at the very least they are keeping up with inflation.

hk p7 and p9's command strong money and now pre-lock s&w revolvers are good to find.

so in other words..the plastic guns that are turned out in lots of 20k pieces are not going to go up in value unless a political influence makes all guns go up in value due to lawmaking...(safe handgun list/safety features, consfiscation, etc). The only thing good about my glock 22 I used to have were the 15 round magazines. The same pistol today sells for pretty much the same $500 as it did 1994 (so a new one is worth less today).

Any higher end firearm from a major maker that is no longer made (or substantially changed) will usually appreciate in value.
