I have a W German P226. Debating about either selling, milling, or getting an RXP slide? Leaning towards a new slide. Perfer not to pay too high of a premium for an OR P226 or P229. Although I do not hold the pistol as super collectible, might be silly to alter an old school slide. What are your thoughts?

New slide or Mill slide?
Tags: None -
I'm not an expert on RXP vs RMR slides and I don't know if a new 226 RXP cut slide is expensive, compared to something like a Glock model RMR cut slide but that would be my choice for several possible if maybe unlikely reasons.
What if you send the slide you have now out to have it cut and a mistake is made and it's ruined or it gets lost or takes too long or so many other negative possibilities, that there is no guarantee against because you're dealing with humans, then you no longer have the complete West German made matching pistol you once had.
Even if it takes you awhile to find a bargain / lowest priced (or the highest quality if you're not worried about money) extra slide cut for an RXP/RMR that fits at least you'll have your original all West German pistol all that time while you look.
And although broken slides usually don't happen unless you're shooting lots of the plus p type ammo things do occasionally break so it's still a possibility and if that happened you would still have a backup slide.
Just my two cents though.Last edited by sealocan; 03-05-2024, 10:43 PM. -
It would be the equivalent of having a Ferrari 328 and trying to install an Aliexpress turbokit on it. It might actually work for a few minutes. But after you’re done spending the $$$, you have something even fewer people now want, and difficult and costly to get back to the way it was. For a result that?s not even that great IF you can even find someone to do it that’s worth a darn.
If you don’t like the gun for what it is (again, it’s not the type to tinker with), sell it and get something you can monkey with, that’s made for monkeying with. I heard a company that makes guns of that type that starts with the letter “G”.NRA Pistol/Rifle Instructor

I would never in a million years cut my 1990s W.German P226 to make it optic ready. I think that is a retarded idea. But its your gun, you can cut it in two for all I care. I actually sent the slide to Sig to have it reblued. It looks fantastic.
I did go the route of buying a seperate RXP slide. Already came with a Romeo Pro installed. But I use this slide on a German made.40cal frame. The slide works on both frames.
This is what it looks like on a .40 frame.
Got one for a P229 as well.

Like someone already said, you probably cant cut the carbon steel slides anyway. Better to either buy the RXP slide or a used stainless milled slide and have it cut.CRPA and NRA member.

^^^^^^^^^^This 100%.What if you send the slide you have now out to have it cut and a mistake is made and it's ruined or it gets lost or takes too long or so many other negative possibilities, that there is no guarantee against because you're dealing with humans, then you no longer have the complete West German made matching pistol you once had.
With the increasing GI factor (General Incompetence) so prevalent across and totally saturating every aspect of life these days, the risk as mentioned above is far too great. So many likely and probable ways it will go bad with the original part. Find one on the used market, and go from there. You will always then have the original configuration.Comment

Hmmm, a gun company that starts with “G”. Perhaps Hi-Point, that’s close to G.Comment

Op
Have you shot a red dot pistol?
Some love it and some really don't.
There are some great videos on you tube by the ASP guys teaching techniques.
If you are on the fence, see if EGW has a dovetail mount for a red dot for your existing gun
If you love it, then have the slide milled.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

I did this with my P229. But since I was going to run a Romeo X, I swapped out the suppressor sights for standard height X-Rays.Last edited by jayhuh; 03-08-2024, 5:45 AM.Comment

Do this! Buy direct from Sig and you will get the full warranty and customer service. Call Sig if anything goes wrong and someone there will take care of you. If you buy from eBay or even a retail store, Sig will tell you to talk to whomever you bought from. The factory SIG P226 Legion optic cut slide is $349.99 on the SIG USA website.
Do not modify your original West German Sig P226 in any way (other than replacing consumables).Comment
