Auto Ordnance 1911??

Hello Calgunners,

Its that time of the year, I am itching for a " not too expensive " 1911. I saw an Auto Ordnance GIsh 1911 at my LGS that stimulated my curiosity.

It has a well done parkerized finish, lowered ejection port with no flaring, small GI style sights, arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Its made by Kahr Arms Inc. and has the series 80 firing pin block safety.

I haven't seen an Auto Ordnance for many years, and this one seems a newly manufactured firearm.

Anyone of you have any experience with this brand? Is it good to buy? Not good to buy? Should I buy something else??

You might want to shop for a RIA 1911. They have several variations that are priced well. Quality seems to usually be well above what the price point would suggest. They have factory support, with ability to buy replacement and upgrade parts. Good luck!

O heard the Kahr Auto Ordnance 1911's were better than the Thompson AO 1911's

...and of all things I have a Thompson Auto Ordnance 1911. It isn't the dog that the internet experts claim it is. It shoots and feeds round nose 230g bullets and my cast and powder coated Lee TL452-230-TC's perfectly. It's 100% mil spec so any 1911 part fits the gun and it's perfectly accurate even with the small fixed black sights.

However, it chokes on SWC bullet unless they are seated to the perfect length which is with the edge of the bullet a couple thumbnail widths above the rim. Otherwise it's 3 point jam city. So I don't used SWC's on that gun, I use an XD45 for SWC's and HP's. After moving to free America I had intended to buy an M&P45 2.0 but haven't gotten around to it because I've been buying other "off roster" guns to play with. The XD45 suits me fine and if I had to survive with a 45ACP gun, I would be happy with that.

You might want to shop for a RIA 1911. They have several variations that are priced well. Quality seems to usually be well above what the price point would suggest. They have factory support, with ability to buy replacement and upgrade parts. Good luck!

I already have the Rock Island Pro Match Ultra FS. Its full featured, the fitting is outstanding, and trigger pull out of the box is sweet and crisp.

The 1911 is simply a cool range toy

I used to own a Springfield XD45 Tactical (5 inch barrel). Serious hospital bill in 2017 forced me to sell it.

I may have to get a replacement in the future.

When I was around 10 years old I grew up shooting AO 1911, the GI type many many years ago~ the thing was it came with a GI type magazine, the small sights and everything your mentioned ~ also the mfg put out a small piece of paper that said - ? Do not use Hollowpoint ammunition in this 1911 ?

So i would at least look into a 800ish Springfield 1911 because they may offer a better warranty ~ some shops even give you a 60 day lay a way to try to make the sale more easy. Good luck.

Thanks, will check the Springfield Milspec. Price on those have gone considerably higher I see.

I happen to own an Auto Ordnance 1911 A1 GI. When I bought it I was shocked how tight and accurate a pistol it was right out of the box.
Also have a RI 1911 and a Springer. I would have to list those 3 as Springfield then AO and then RIA.
I do agree on the fact that was mentioned earlier that Springfield really stands behind their pistols. Top notch service in my opinion.
