    AimSurplus trade-in Glocks

Anyone have a good or bad experience with an AimSurplus LEO trade-in Glock that was bought?

Got an email from Aim the other day that showed their trade-in's and it got me thinking about buying either a Glock 17.3 or Glock 22.3 then converting it to 9mm with a drop in barrel.
I have a bunch of Glock 17 mags for my AR9 but no Glock 17

With the 10% off code the G17 would be $342 and the G22 $270

I've had good luck with Glock trade-ins in general, so in principle I wouldn't be opposed to buying a used glock, depending on price. But that's the catch.

It looks like no mags would be included, and with transfer fees you probably won't be saving that much vs just buying new.

If Aim has them, chances are your local shop also has some in stock. Most shops have access to the same distributors. you'll avoid a transfer fee and they'll likely include at least a single mag. Not to mention you get to inspect before you buy.

I have had owned two G19 Gen2's and seen a G17 Gen2 LEO trade in's. LEO trade in's are usually not shot much, however, many have external holster ware and occasional superficial to heavy scratches on the grip. Scratches due to to carrying LEO leaning up against things.

By the time you pay for shipping and the FFL transfer/hold fee and they only come with one magazine you may save $80 from buying new. They occasionally come with engravings from the issuing agency, and to know that an LEO carried can be a cool factor to some.

        Did the rough maths.
Out the door the Aimsurplus Glock 17 would be about $500, same with the Glock 22 after getting a 9mm conversion barrel for it.
New Glocks at my LGS start at $600 so I would be saving $180 by going with Aim.
Saw online other gun shops and big boxes have new Glocks for $500 regularly so I think I'll just drag my butt to one of them or wait for my LGS to have them on sale again for that price (happens several times a year).

        Thanks for the input.

PD's found out their diversity hires can't handle .40 so they went back to 9mm en mass flooding the market with .40 service weapons.

LE agencies also discovered that in order to maintain reliability and durability, .40S&W pistols and .357SIG pistols require parts replacement sooner than 9x19mm pistols and .45ACP pistols.

Which is why LE agencies trade them (.40S&W pistols and .357SIG pistols) in at a faster rate than 9x19mm pistols and .45ACP pistols.
^Trading them in for newer pistols ends up being less expensive than trying to maintain.

Well, you couldn?t have given me one then. One of the few calibers I?ve never had a desire for.

I like 40. It's just that with ammo being so expensive, 9mm is even more economical.

The Aim surplus deals are cool, but only work if you have an FFL that will hook you up with a low transfer fee.

River City Gun Exchange in Sacramento, sells used LE trade-in 22.3s for $299 every now and then. But the latest batch was pretty rough. Some of them had the gen 2 style semi-circle cut-out on the bottom of the front magwell and there were cracks along the sides of the cut-out.

If you can find a lightly used 22.3s for $300 bucks, it's a great home defense gun. Super cheap and 100% reliable. I have two of them. Sometimes I put an aftermarket 34 slide with RMR on it to shoot some 9mm.

Yeah, the LGS transfer cost on top of the DROS killed it for me, might as well buy one brand new.
I have a grip of Glock 17 mags but no Glock 17, also have several hundred rounds of .40 but no .40 pistols.
The plan was to get a .40 Glock as cheap as possible, have fun with it at the range, then when all the .40 is gone switch to 9mm exclusively or possibly buy more .40 here and there if I liked it.
