German imported Walther PP

My grandmother just gave me her Walther PP for Christmas. It's an import from Germany, purchased in Oklahoma, and she didn't have it have it registered there (according to her).

What do I need to do as far as registration goes, here in California? You can no longer get them imported, and it's not ont he gun list as far as I know because only Walther USA is on the list, and I don't even see a PP on the list anyways.

Do I just dot he usual and get it registered, or is there something unique about it because it's from germany?

Also, if anyone has any sort of book that they could look up the serial number on and give me more details about it, that would be great. Sorry if I've asked any newb questions.

Gifts from "immediate family members" (defined as child-parent and grandchild-grandparent relationships only) are exempt from being on the certified list, and the recommended procedure is to have your grandmother ship the pistol to your dealer in California, via UPS Next-Day or FedEx Next-Day, and to include a letter stating that it is a gift from her to you. Your dealer then DROSes it, checking the exemption (actually, there are two of them: from being on the certified roster, and also "one handgun per thirty days"), and stating in the "Comments" section that it is a gift from your grandmother. You still need to wait ten days.

Also, when you have its serial number handy, let me know what it is, and I'll look it up in one of my Walther reference books, to get more details.

I really appreciate your quick response.
There is a # on the slide that is: 437*** That number is also behind the trigger on the right side of the gun with an 'Alexandra VA' stamp on it.

On the left side of the pistol there is an oval with what looks to be an E or a B followed with a P, with a bunch of slash marks or maybe X's over it. On the left side of the slide it also says Made in W. Germany and Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do Modell PP Cal 7,65mm.

Also on the near side of the barrel next to where the brass eject is there is a number 74 with what sort of looks like a fig leaf stamp.

I really appreciate all your help, any info you could look up, value, when it was made, whatever is very helpful.

This is kind of fun, because it was a free gift and I'm looking forward to discoverying some of the history of this particular pistol.

The "74" that is stamped on the barrel hood is a two-digit datecode, meaning 1974. The datecode system was changed in 1980, I think, to a letter-based system.

I deleted a few #'s wouldn't want anyone having your serial number for many reasons. Congrats on the fine piece.

According to my Walther book, your PP falls between the serial number range 300301 through 474866, which were manufactured between 01/1961 and 09/1985 in Manurhin, although its slide markings do not suggest this. As stated above, the two-digit datecode on the barrel hood indicates that your particular example was made (proofed) in 1974.
