So shortly after my last post in the P238 recall thread, I got a call from my friends over at On-Target letting me know my P238 had finally arrived. I promptly drove down to begin the paper work and shoot this baby.
After doing the paperwork I was saddened to find out that they had no .380 rounds for me to shoot. Luckily I was carrying my P232 along with a spare mag fully loaded with federal hydrashock.
So into the lanes I go to shoot 15 rounds out of my brand new pistol that I intend to make my primary off duty depending on how it shoots and when I get a chance to qualify with it. I fired the first magazine and had one stoppage (2nd round). I attribute this to it being brand new and needing to break in. After that it performed perfectly.
I fired two seven round groups from a distance of seven yards at two separate grid targets. My first two shots were high in the first group. everything after that was on the money. Recoil was very mild, it felt even less than my P232. My second group printed nicely in the orange. Despite being able to only fire 15 rounds from the gun I was very impressed. It is extremely light weight and compact but fits comfortably in the hand. The thumb safety snapped on and off crisply and was not subject to the recall problem. (Not within the affected SNs).
I hope to get some more .380 and would like to put at least 100-200 more rounds through it to better gauge its performance and break it in. Below are some pictures of the gun with my p232 and my p239 for a scale reference. Luckily for me I also brought my p239 and some hydrashok with me so I had something to carry on the way home.
