1911 grip safety

I just noticed that the grip safety on my 1911 isn't working. It seems that the snout that is supposed to block the trigger barely contacts it, and the edge is rounded so it rides right over the trigger bow. How difficult is it to fit a new one?

A drop-in unit is usually fairly easy to fit. If you want a properly blended GS, it takes considerably more time and patience to properly fit it to the frame.

Fitting a new unit is not hard, but it is time consuming. It's a lot of "check where it touches.. file.. check where it touches.. file.." and repeat and repeat and repeat.

If I can get it figured out, you should be able to.

+1 on everything said already. I would recommend an Ed Brown grip safety for replacement as it's the highest riding safety although it does require a little bit of frame material removal.

Or just go with "the answer" from Novak. The 1911 was never suppose to have the grip safety. It already has a thumb safety.
Several Tier 1 units are known to tape theirs down.

Also, the Series 70 GS has a wider tab than the later Series 80 - Series 80 is thinner due to the internals of the trigger actuated FP block. Not exactly precise fitting to thin it out, but by hand it's a bit of a pain.

I keep forgetting about that, always meant to buy one. I went to their site, can't find the darn thing for sale even with a search. I do see it offered with one of their packages, but not as a stand alone item.
