What is the difference between the 229 and the 228?

- Caliber options for the 229: .40, .357, 9mm
- 228 9mm only.
- 229: milled slide (mainly to help with the increased energy of the 40/357 round)
- 228: folded slide.

229 feels a little bit more top heavy, I still love it. BTW its a 9mm.

The bottom half-inch or so of the P229 slide is wider than that of the P228, and lacks the scalloping from the ejection port to the muzzle. You can see the difference in my "Plain Jane" ones below (P228 first, P229 second):

hm.. I wish they did that "scalloping" treatment on the 226 slide. I kept hearing the cocking serations were different, but those pictures show them perfectly.

Here's my "Plain Jane" P226, and although it has a milled stainless steel slide, its shape, contouring, and scalloping is closer to that of the P228 than the P229:
