    Need instruction

    Hi guys, I am a newbie here and I need instructions for modifying your Smith & Wesson revolver's operational mode, shifting it away from the Double Action/Single Action (DA/SA) configuration, and exclusively adapting it to function solely in the Single Action (SA) mode.

      Why do you want to do that? The double action and single action functions are completely separate from each other, and removing the double action capability will not change the single action operation one bit.

        YouTube probably has plenty of videos on that. I agree with others though, not a lot of point to doing so. I’m also bias, but I think those who shoot revolvers single action aren’t appreciating the function of a revolver.

          This^^^^

          What you want is superfluous and unnecessary. However it's your money, time and gun, so I would say to contact a competent revolver mechanic and have your gun converted by someone that knows what they are doing. Just be sure to save the original parts that will get removed, so when down the road you decide to sell it, or realize that it is basically a useless modification, you can return the revolver to it's original mechanical condition.

            Perhaps he's trying to buy/sell an off roster Smith and needs the SAE?

                  Maybe. There was supposedly a significant enough difference that
                  S&W released the Model 14-3, 38spl, in "single action only" mode;
                  there was no DA sear.

                  These guns are fairly sought after. I acquired one in ~2008 (off-Roster)
                  using the single-action exemption as a 'pathfinder' for priming the
                  subsequent Roster-exempt SAE workflow (and which AB1964 did not change)

                      Doing that is how you bring an off-roster revolver into CA using the single action exemption.

                      You can put the DA sear back after you get the gun out of DROS.

                        Not living in Cali, I never thought of this. I sincerely hope that is the case and if it is so, I apologize for my somewhat judgmental post.

                          No worries. I sometimes forget this forum has a lot of former residents. When they post pic of something we can't normally/easily get I wonder "HOW?", then realize they now live in a free state.

                              If he has possession, it's his and he can do a PPT, roster exempt. If he is trying to get it, then he doesn't have possession and it's someone else doing the conversion.
