Yes, it will function without the magazine disconnect. It's just held in with a screw.

that's fantastic. If it was this easy for Sig to do this for the P320 hopefully a P365 will be on the roster soon.

Seeing as this is a much smaller change then say a single shot to a semiauto, do you think this is likely to be a problem? Would you list it as the original model or as the model it has become? Not sure how or if it would work as CA is such a pain.

P365 does not have a magazine disconnect (would be ideal because its stupid as hell) but CA currently requires it and for that reason I do not think the p365 is coming to CA any time soon, but the CA appeals court could surprise me.
The best thing for you to do is to just call or email your county / issuing agency

I can't speak for Sig, but I expect they'll have something for us soon.

Just out of curiosity with all the excitement I see for the Kalifornia edition, how many of you are planning to make it a standard P320/M18 by removing the MDS, site plate, and replacing it with standard SIG parts?

It was easy to do with the M18 because many of the lci parts were already there. Notice the regular 320 isn't kalifornicated.

If the FFL DROS'd it as simply "P320" then perhaps slide swaps would be safer.

Grip module swaps would probably be OK though no matter
It'll be irrelevant if comparing to DROS. The DES system actually lists the model as: "320CA-9-M18-MS-CA" which of course is not all on the slide.

They essentially used the marketing part number.

Honestly though, I think most agencies really just look at the Make/SN since the model number can vary from what is actually in the DROS system for many firearms.

If you are speaking about the CLI, Sig didn't design a new CLI for CA, they are using the same CLI as the "regular" M17/M18 and some of the X models. ALL of the CLI parts were already there. Sig only had to add a warning to the rear sight cover. I guess those models were already "kalifornicated" as far as the CLI is concerned.

The only difference between the CA compliant M17 and the free state "regular" M17 is the warning on the rear sight cover and the MDM. That's it. The mechanical design of the CLI is exactly the same.

So happy. Let this be the shot across the bow beginning the end of CA's ban practice of "certified list of safe handguns"/roster.

You are statistically very unlikely to get into a gunfight where you will discharge your firearm at another human being.

That being said, I am not necessarily concerned in a criminal court that swapping grip modules or removing the CLI warning by installing an optic or even removing the MDM would play a large part in determining guilt or negligence. However, as the burden of proof in civil court is much lower, I would be more worried about these modifications.

It is almost a guarantee that you will be sued in civil court if you are involved in a defensive shooting in CA. In some states there are laws prohibiting civil suits in a shooting determined to be in appropriate self-defense. Sadly, that does not exist here.
