    Kimber OEM magazines are trash

Probably stating the obvious for Kimber owners but I?ve been burned by two separate Kimber magazines. One that came with the 1911 and another I ordered after the fact thinking I just had a bad magazine.

I ordered a Wilson Combat magazine based on other?s recommendation here on Cal Guns. I sure don?t understand how a premium company such as Kimber can skimp on such a important component of their weapon. Anyway life goes on.

Their OEM mags are garbage. The KimPro magazines are great.

Agree the Kimber Tac mags are very good, I use them in a few non-Kimber 1911s. One a Ed Brown SF carry, I prefer them to the EB mags.

Probably my oldest mag BODY is a Kimber, but the insides were replaced with a "Super 7 Upgrade Kit" from TrippResearch.

(full-size, 7-round, welded baseplate mag, supplied with a "TLE II Custom".

This old mag didn't feed reliably in any of my 1911s until I replaced the spring and follower with those from Tripp Research (Tripp's hybrid follower).

I did have a few "Kimpro Tac Mags"
Designed for full-size Kimber models (Custom, Pro, Ultra+), this Tac-Mag features a Teflon-coated stainless steel follower, Rocket wire spring and an exclusive quick-change floorplate with three included bases: a conventional stainless steel plate, slim bumper pad and a thick bumper pad for competition or use with extended magazine wells. Compatibility:Kimber Custom, Pro, Ultra+ and other models with full-length grip, Colt Government and Commander models, plus almost any brand and model of mil-spec 1911. 1100721A

(All my 1911 mags are in .45ACP)

My Kimpro Tac Mags must have been from a bad batch as the feedlips of my 3 or so mags spread out too far, relatively early. Back then (maybe 15 years ago), I didn't think to try to contact Kimber for possible warranty replacements.

I've since found various brands which are lasting me for many years and staying reliable (WilsonCombat, ChipMcCormick, CheckMate, TrippResearch).

I just use WC 47D mags in all my 1911's. I have heard the Kimber mags can be spotty.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

I don't know about you, OP. But I have several Kimber oem mags and the KimTacPro that were left overs from my two other Kimbers I sold away and they are as EQUALLY reliable in my 3 remaining 1911s (Colt 1991, Kimber Custom II, and RIA Pro Match Ultra FS).

I don't waste my money on uber expensive magazines like the Wilson, Tripp. etc) but have used all oem magazines from Colt, Springfields, Kimber, Shooting Star, Chip McCormick, Mec Gar and they are all equal. I have around 40 of these regular/ordinary 1911 magazines.

The only " expensive " magazines I ever bought were the KimTacPro and the only reason I bought them was it was on sale and I couldn't resist.

Kimber themselves are trash. Kimber lost its luster about 20+ years ago. Even back then, their quality was short lived. I had a Kimber once and dumped it. Just Google Kimber and look at the Company history. It’s gone through many changes like a hooker goes through men.

                Just my opinion.

compared to glock and m&p, 1911 style guns aren't suitable to carry. mechanism ad magazine interactions and tolerances are finicky. they lack the reliability of the m&p 2.0. they need to be cleaned and well maintained at all times to run, and constantly reoiled, and for most people that's not a realistic standard they can adhere to.

Purchased new in 1984, personally, all of my WC 47D seven round magazines are still going. And when Wilson went
to ten rounders in the mid 1990s, well, all those work too.

Yet ever since 1997 Kimber had held the throne of being the biggest seller of 1911 in the US. It consistently outsell all other 1911 in the commercial market even today, so you have to admit that your opinion that Kimber are trash is not true or that it lost its luster is just delusional on your part.

I bought eight 8 round KimPro TacMags (who thinks up these names) about 15 years ago. They came with 3 different thickness base plate pads. All still going strong. I don’t baby them and I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned them.

I only have a few of their mags that came with the guns but I’ve never had a problem with them. That said, Wilson mags are all I buy aftermarket.

I have two Kimbers and never had an issue with the pistols or magazines.
