    AR Pistol Registration

Not sure if this is the right section to ask but how would I register my AR pistol in California when I return after my time in the service? I built a couple of AR pistols while in North Carolina and will be returning to CA. Lowers were registered as others how would I go about registering in CA? Thanks

Thank you so the fact that they are registered as others in North Carolina won’t keep me from registering them as pistols in CA?

The other question would be did you cut all ties to ca when you left? License car registration or continue to own a home in ca,or pay any taxes from ca.

If not ca would still consider you a resident and would make bringin normal guns into ca that are roster affected.

Make sure that you're governed by PC 27585. It's a felony if you get it wrong.

If you maintained you CA DL/ID or were still registered to vote in CA or owned/rented any property in CA, then CA considered you a CA resident that entire time.

Which means PC 27585 applies to you.

In order to legally bring firearms that you acquired outside of CA into CA, the CA legal firearms must be shipped to a CA FFL dealer, who will then transfer (DROS, 10 day wait, 1 in 30 day wait) them to you.

The firearms must be CA legal and can not include any large capacity magazines or large capacity magazine parts kits.
In addition, if the CA legal firearms are handguns, then the handguns must be listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or be exempt from it (C&R, OTP, SAE, SSE2). Non-exempt off-Roster handguns can not be legally imported into CA by a CA resident.

Failure to utilize a CA FFL dealer equates to a misdemeanor per long gun and a felony per handgun.

If you obtain another State's DL/ID and have not maintained your CA residency, then you can return to CA as a new resident of CA.

Which means PC 27560 applies to you.

You can legally bring all the CA legal firearms you obtained while outside of CA into CA and within 60 days of establishing CA residency (obtaining a valid CA DL/ID), you must report all of the firearms to CA DOJ BOF.

The firearms must be CA legal and can not include any large capacity magazines or large capacity magazine parts kits.
In addition, if the CA legal firearms are handguns, then they are not required to be listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.

Thank you. Would I be able to do an inter family transfer to my dad while I’m still in North Carolina?

You can gift it to your dad if he lives in ca by going through FFL but not to avoid the law for you to import but whatever he decides to do with it after is his business. He may not like the pistol and say f this you can have it but will again have to go through ffl to transfer.

You will need to make it ca compliant first
