    Para-Ordnance Love

Recently seen a few Para's on the forum for sale. Not the same old plastic, Off Roster, Rare...etc.etc.etc. Made in Canada which are the best IMO. Great Double Stack 1911s.

Ima original owner of my 1999 P45-13 Limited. With all that came from the factory. Updated last few years with Kensight Combat, EKW Day-Glo, Para NOS Nickel Ejector, Wilson Combat Firing Pin assembly, Wilson Combat Extractor, Polished Ramp and Throat, Stock Para Recoil Spring and Hogues.

    13 + 1 is serious.

The only other 1911 besides my Herd of Ponies.

Purchased from Chris @ Gretas original Simi Valley shop with Greta II residing. Came from his gun store buddy in Honolulu; cause nobody would buy the $895.00 pistol.

    Best, Dave

I have a Canadian P-14 that I got very cheap ($350) at an OC Fairgrounds gunshow right after the "hi cap" mag restrictions went into effect. It thus had no magazine to go with it. I added a Kings ambi safety, an adjustable rear sight and a fiber optic front sight and proceeded to kick butt at my local club matches. It has never let me down. I had it ceracoated a couple years ago. I obtained some 14 round mags during Freedom Week. Previously, I had purchased 10 rounders.

I just sold my P18-9 because I just didn't shoot it any more after I got my Staccato XL Tuxedo. I also had a P14 Pro Custom Double stack 45 but have been downsizing my 45s. Both guns shot very well and I had no complaints about them.

P-14 built from a Para gunsmith bare frame kit:
            - 30 LPI hand checkered front strap with frame size reduction
            - trigger guard undercut and straightened / checkered front of guard
            - thin grips
            - Ed Brown high grip safety
            - Kings no-tab ambi safety
            - Internal parts are Colt or titanium
            - P14 Limited Government length slide with adjustable rear and Tritium front sight
            - USGI fitted barrel, link and bushing
            - Frame was matte hard chrome plated by Tech-Plate back in the day
            - I bought hi-cap mags before the 2000 ban, the were $75 each back in 1989. (ouch said my wallet!)
            - Took about three years to build since I had to spend money on raising a family.

            - above gun with special Commander length slide and fixed sights.
            - ejector is modified extended type so the gun ejects properly with both slides.

The only Para I ever owned was the sub-compact double stack 10 round Night Hawg. Never did run right, par for the course with shorty 1911s. The other thing was the finish, never owned a gun with finish that weak before or since. It was almost like pant, would wear off just by looking at it.

I’m not bagging on Para everybody makes a lemon now and then, but my one example was pretty bad.

Really liked the Canadian Paras. The roster prevented their sale in Ca very quickly.

I used to drool over the Wart Hog at BPS when they opened back in 07. (Before CalGuns polluted my head)

I haven't read a lot of good things about it but I won't let that stop me
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I love my Canadian made P-10, shot it about a month ago, so much more fun than shooting the latest plastic wonder.

I have a Canadian made P-10, that I've never had a problem with. Mine is the stainless version, so I didn't have to worry about the finish.

I once had a P-10 for CCW. An early model. It too never ran right. Had feeding and stove piping issues. Sent it back to the factory where they re-worked it. Came back and while it was better, it still never functioned reliably. Ended up trading it in for a G27.

This is not to say other Para's are problem children. But this one was. Never bought another one. B.

I have a few and like them alot. Latest is the P14 stainless -

One thing I've noticed is that some small after market parts, regardless of maker, sometimes don't quite fit. Mainspring housing and mag release didn't fit. The Kimber ambi-safety I used on this gun was too short (so to speak) and allowed the hammer to drop when the trigger was pressed. I had an extra hammer around and that cured the problem.

Am not a fan of the 80's FP block and that metal tab sold by Brownells to fill the void also required opening up the pin holes a bit.

I guess it makes sense - Canadians look alot like us and behave almost the same ..... just not quite.

Para's are hit and miss. A friend of mine bought a stainless P16-40 when I bought a blued one, this was for shooting Limited in USPSA. We ordered the same Ed Brown parts except his in stainless. Had the same guy do the trigger job. Mine is still dead nuts 2.5 lbs. His was all over the place. It would wander after a match or two. He ended up getting rid of it to someone who turned it into an open gun.
