Has anyone seen a drop-in kit for a 9mm conversion to 1911 style guns? I haven't found one anywhere. Found a 1911 GI for cheap that I thought I may experiment...

9mm conversion kit for 1911 anywhere?

I would imagine it would take some work...lightening the slide, different magazines, barrel, springs etc. -

It's not as easy as it would seem...
Bolt faces are different, feed ramps, barrel...
For sure you could do it with a slide, barrel and mag... but, for that cost, you might as well get a new gun.

Do you want the ability to switch back and forth between calibers or do you simply want an inexpensive 9mm 1911?
If you don't care about interchangeability, the best way might be to buy a RIA GI in .38 Super. Then you replace the barrel and a few other small parts from Sarco, get some 9mm mags and you are good to go.

I've thought about this and still might do it! Good luck and let us know how it goes.Comment

If you are trying to convert a 1911 in 45 ACP you will need to replace the ejector. If you have a 38 super or 9x23 it is as easy as just getting a 9mm barrel fitted. Most 10mm 1911 pistols use 9mm/38super ejectors. The wise man said just find your place

There used to be some Colt 9mm uppers floating around. Converting a Combat commander is as simple as changing the top end and a mag, I have that set-up. To use a 9mm upper (slide and barrel) on a full size frame will indeed require changing the extractor. Nice thing about having two uppers for the same lower is familiarity with the "action" of the pistol. Also, with a .45 and 9mm, you can almost be assured of being able to feed the monster if SHTF.Comment
