    1873 Single Action Army

What do the CGN recommend for a clone of 1873 Single Action Army?

Actual Colt models are running at $1800, so is there a good or better Colt clone?

    Thanks

    Uberti

I have two Uberti rifles and one pistol. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Uberti product.

Uberti made SAA revolvers are close to Colt.

But if you want a good strong single action that is used by alot of Cowboy Action Shooters, you can't beat Ruger.

Uberti. They are very slick. Taylors and Company, and Cimmeron are your best bets for importers.

The Taylor's and Company Smoke Wagon is really nice. I have one in .357 (5.5" barrel) it's made by Uberti and slicked up by Taylor's Smith's...

Used to be a choice had to be made between transfer bar and "four click" but now we have "3 click" single actions. Unfortunately alot of traditional single actions come in 3 click configuration, doing away with the safety notch and replacing it with a trigger actuated firing pin system. Works, but requires a great deal of over travel. Not at all difficult to convert though.

I've picked up a few USFA single actions from $700.00 to $1,100.00 -

            Conventional with a 7 1/2" barrel

            Bisley with a 5 1/2" bbl

If you go with a current made new single action I don't think it makes much difference which company name you buy. They're mostly Uberti made to a brand name specs.

I'm aware Colts SAA are high priced, but they're worth it and will go up in value over the years of ownership---a good investment that you can shoot...!

                Standard Manufacturing.
My friends who shoot SASS say they are currently the best for the elegance of a true SAA. If you want a very durable beater that can take many more rounds than any SAA, Ruger seems to be the best. I’m waiting to get a Vaquero back from Bowen Classic Arms, so at that point it should be more friendly than the stock version.

Pietta also makes some great clones.
I would recommend trying one out first - primarily due to the SAA's having the classic thin, offset trigger.
I was used to Ruger Blackhawks and Vaqueros with their triggers and found that I did not care for the very small and thin trigger of the classic SAA design.

My Uberti top break in .38 special is amazingly accurate and it uses N frame speed loaders.

I also have a 90s vintage 5.5" Uberti SAA. Great shooting revolver.

Absolutely has to be 4 click for me. No point otherwise.

I love my USFA pistols. I own 5 of them, all brand new in box. I ordered them back when USFA was still in business, around 2005. I?ve yet to shoot a one of them! In fact, I shoot my genuine Colt 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen SAA?s before I?d ever shoot my USFA?s. I didn?t plan on that, I actually bought them with the intention to shoot them. I just never did and then suddenly the company shut down.

I?ve got enough SAA?s to satisfy my shooting desire. Now my USFA?s are mere conversation pieces in the collection. My son will get them all one day.

On a side note, in John Taffin?s book, ?Single action Sixguns,? he says the very best SAA gun ever to be made, even surpassing the 1st Gen Colts, was made by USFA. And Taffin is the authority on SAA?s and it?s clones.

HA! Don't tell my Colt that. Bought it new in 2009. Probably 500 rounds through it, both 38 & 357.
