    2020 Python

Hey fellas, I've had mine a year or so now, shot it about a dozen times and I've had a few problems with the cylinder locking up.

I guess I'm going to have to send it back to Colt but I'm worried that they won't be able to get it to lock up..

Has anybody had any problems like this?

Any member here sent one back to Colt ?

    Thank you
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Not with a new Python but a new Night Cobra.

I'm a S&W guy. I saw all the internet postings of problems with the new Pythons, King Cobras and Cobras when they came out-some here and some on other sites.

I gave it a little time, but had a hankering for a night Cobra instead of a J frame for a change. So I picked one up.

Happy with it cosmetically and action wise(other than that damn ejection rod knurling sticking in the crane) but after maybe 4 boxes of ammo max it locked up tight/hammer worked cylinder didn't turn in tandem with action.

Sent it back. Colt fixed it. Worked fine.

Despite trying 3 different grips it never felt right in my hand and the locking up was the kicker-I didn't trust it and sold it.

I gambled. I lost. Would not buy any new Colt Revolver. Not that all the Ruger's or Smith's are perfect but I trust them more.

Does it happen while the cylinder is empty? See if you can work out if it's condition related: fired brass can be used to simulate a loaded cylinder. Make sure the recess under the extractor star (and the back of the star itself) are clean. Make sure the ejector rod is fully screwed in. Make sure the rims of the cartridges are not nicked or bent (yes, I have seen that before.)

If you can recreate the problem, see if it happens on one or several or all cylinders, and mark which are the problem children (I use a small sliver of a sticker in the cylinder flute at the 3:00 position to mark the pre-cocked problem chamber; the problem shows up when cocking or DA firing the revolver when the sticker is at 3.) That makes verification a lot easier, and whoever looks at it may thank you.

If it's none of those, then you may need to have Colt look at it.

Yes, my King Cobra is like that, it’s been back to Colt twice. The action is sensitive to short cycling, the new stuff more so than the older ones from last century. I can replicate it easily on the KC but not my Trooper MKIII…I don’t recall the late 80’s King Cobra I had doing that…wish I never sold that one

I have Piton 2020 and shoot approximately 300 rds-100 of 357 and 200 of 38SPL. No issue so far.
Are you guys having issue with 357 ammo or 38 Spl?

I have a blued King Cobra 4" I picked up from consignment 14-15 yrs
              ago (how time flies!!!)

It too has 'cyl. lockup" issue... but let's clarify: there are two kinds of
              'cylinder lockup' conditions in revolvers...
              • Thin-head cases may 'jump back' a tad and render cylinder rotation difficult/bound up. This may be
also associated with shooting longer 357s after a slew of ~0.1" shorter 38Spls (dirty) were shot - and
the 357 round(s) didn't fully seat in cylinder but cylinder was closed with at least some force.

                Same kinda thing with 44Mag/44Spl....

And this can happen on a wide variety (brands, finish, new/used/crappy of wheelguns - S&W, Ruger, Colt,
Taurus, etc. and may be ammo brand or new-vs-reload sensitive.

              • My King Cobra, after a box of ammo thru it, can 'bind up' due to the Ejector Rod coming loose (unscrewing)
& backing out a bit - enough to increase the net overall length of the whole rod/cylinder 'system' lengthwise
                causing it to bind.

Which type issue are you having??

              -Bill
