    Wrong Serial Number on DROS

I recently found out one of my CCW's was drosed with the wrong serial number and that is stopping issuance on my permit. I have done everything else paid all the money etc.

The gun is a Walther PPS I attained through single shot exemption back in 2014 (back when we thought CCW was going to be allowed).

The serial number is missing a digit, but it's been 9 years since I drosed the gun. I found my records and have the original DROS from. The FFL (Gunfighter Tactical) is no longer in buisness. I do not believe I can re-dros the pistol since single shot exemption is no longer allowed. What are my options?

Typically, when this occurs the CA FFL dealer that originally submitted the DROS can do a DROS correction.

In your case, you should do a "pawn-return".

    1. Go to a pawn store that deals in firearms and pawn your handgun.
    2. A few days later, you return to the pawn store and pay back the pawn loan.
    3. The pawn store will then transfer (DROS/10 day wait/1 in 30 day wait) the handgun back to you.

When the handgun is transferred back to you, make sure the CA DROS has the correct information before it is submitted.
    ^pistol, semi-auto, Walther, PPS, black, 9mm, 3.2" barrel length, serial # XYZ123.

So I get to sell it to the store then buy it back for twice the price?

No, you can get it back. When you pawn it, you can cance the pawn before it goes ?on sale?. So you?d pay a fee and DROS.

Some pawn shops do this. Call around.

          Nope, you are pawning it.

          1. Pawn item for a money loan.
          2. Pay back the money loan and you receive the item back.
          3. Depending on how long you pay back the money loan will determine how much interest you need to pay when you pay back the money loan.
          4. If you do not pay back the money loan after a set amount of time, the pawn store will then sell the item to recoup their money.
          5. Legally, a pawn store cannot sell a firearm within 30 days of it being pawned.
~ A pawn store can only sell off-Roster handguns to exempt persons, so the money loan you get for an off-Roster handgun is typically 1/3 to 1/2 of the MSRP of the off-Roster handgun.

Pawn-return cost = pay back money loan amount + pay interest on the money loan + pay CA DROS fees.

              No problem.

A person pawning a handgun is considered an exempt person for the purpose of having the handgun that they pawned returned to them. [PC 32110(e),(f)]

Article 4 (commencing with Section 31900) and Article 5 (commencing with Section 32000) shall not apply to any of the following:
              (e) The return of a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person by a person licensed pursuant to Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive, to its owner where that firearm was initially delivered in the circumstances set forth in subdivision (a), (d), (f), or (i).

I'm looking for another alternative, my fear is that the gun will not pass DROS when I go to get it back because it is not on the pistol roster and will not show as previously owning it since it was entered into the system incorrectly.

This seems extreamly high risk, and I don't think it will work.

It?s not risky at all; people do it all the time. When you fill the paperwork out to pawn it the right serial numbers will be on it. Then in 30 days you just re dros back to you and you pick it up after the 10 day waiting period.

California doesn?t have a law requiring all guns to be registered to people. The DOJ computes have crashed several times over the years that I know of losing all that registration data. California just cares about getting the gun into the system.

This done all the time. Don?t over think this and make it a bigger issue than it has to be.

English not ops firat language I guess. (LOL) It is your firearm so it will go back to you. Ask the pawn shop to verify.

To the OP, something like this happened to me in 04.2022 when I was told by the Sheriff’s department that a G23 bought from B&B in 07.1992 was not in the “system” and cannot be used for CCW. B&B was arguably one of the largest outfit in SoCal at the time. I had my DROS, receipt, and 4473. Was told by BATF and CADOJ they could not initiate any research but I could go use the CADOJ system and file a Firearm Ownership Report and pay $19.

I did that in 04.2022 and at the same time substituted the G23 since I didn’t know how long the red tape was. In my case, this “re-registration” was just cleared in 02.2023. Not sure if it was just backed up or the DOJ was still trying to correct the breach, or simply overwhelmed by the number of registration requests. BUT, it shouldn’t have taken this long.

Not sure if this works in your case but do look into this and start from here https://cfars.doj.ca.gov

This happened to me. When I moved back to CA from Florida, I brought the S&W 3695 I got there. A decade later, joined Calguns, read through all the posts about the legalities of owning a gun in the State. And that's when I found out about the need to register guns brought in from out of state. So I contacted DOJ about it and was advice, to simply send in the form. I did so but did not notice that the serial I sent in was one difit off. Many years later, I sold the gun to a fellow calgunner from LA who was in NorCal. So after the sale, I checked all my papers and was going to send a request to DOJ to remove the gun's record under my name, and that's when I noticed the error on the serial. I emailed DOJ/ATF about it, and they simply said to send them a correction form and they'll fix it, and at the same time, take it out from my record.

are you required to have a fsc card to get your pawn returned?
