Tips For Proper Grip on Micro Compacts

I?m having trouble developing a proper grip when holding ?micro compacts.?

My strong hand encompasses almost the entire grip leaving no room for the palm of my support hand. I can slide my strong over but then I have to awkwardly curl my trigger finger to reach the trigger.

Other than resting my support hand almost entirely on my strong hand I am at a loss on how to build a proper grip.

Any tips?

Get a bigger gun. Bigger grip. Glock 19 size perhaps.

you are having trouble because there is not enough grip on a micro compact for a proper grip....if you choose to carry a micro compact you need to accept the fact that you will never be able to grip the thing like a larger gun.

I figured there was no feee lunch. Just wanted to make sure there wasn?t something I was missing.

I suppose you could go to an all steel 45acp Colt or SA 1911. Or you could keep going with this micro
business and shoot one of your fingers until you get the mystery squared away.

I put slightly fatter grips on my P238 .... that gave me just enough space to get the meat of my off hand between fingertips and my strong hand. But with a .380, it doesn't jump around much and a very capable single hand gun.

My P365, I had to do the same thing, I went with the Wilson Combat instead of the stock Sig body.

Those are the two I am having trouble with. Did you go with the Hogue grips on the P238?

The smallest semiautomatic that I will use is a Sig P239 and I have a S&W 60 that I put a large grip on. Small handguns and large hands is not a good combo.

On a small grip that is pretty much all you can do. Just grip with support hand over the strong hand, it does help improve the overall grip if you squeeze with the support hand. I find that I grab smaller pistols harder than full size ones, my expectation is not precision longer distance shooting but rather control and ability to follow up.

Respectfully have to disagree. I have a Tenicor Velo 4 and a Vedder both for AIWB along with a drawer full of various other holsters with and without wedges and claws. None of which are ideally concealing a full size 1911 in a T-Shirt, at least not with my body type.

Great point about expectations. I do have a tendency to hung up on precision.

You are missing something - more grip :-).

Your hand size is what it is and if there is no space, you'll have to grip hand-over-hand which is better than shooting one handed, but not as good as holding the grip of a larger gun. The tiniest of guns, such as NAA revolvers in .22, are a perfect example. No matter how you grip it, it's not going to work too well.

Don't go below the size of gun that you can shoot with normal grip, and I would say that strong hand pinky below the grip is still "normal enough." Anything smaller, where you have only one strong hand finger on the grip, or where you can't use the support hand, would be too small.
