.45 ACP ideas

Been very happy with my CZ 75 SP-01 9mm. I am thinking about getting a .45ACP and I am looking for idea.

Generally, I like large and heavy. I do want a model with a rail below the barrel for mounting a light.

Price range is medium-high. Anything between 1k and 2k is fine. I am avoiding the super expensive versions and the not interested in cheapies at all.

I think I want all steel or SS construction simply for weight.

I have been looking. Sig Sauer P220 seems possible but most of the CA compliant version are on the light side being Alloy frame.

A lot of .45ACP's are 1911 type. I have been reading about that and am still unclear if I should consider a 1911 type or a new design.

Kimber has some potential choices. Warrior II seems like a possibility.

Curious why most of the .45ACP's I see are lighter than my CZ SP-01. Looks like CZ discontinued their .45ACP

Go to a big box store like a turners and just see what they have in stock. You want to feel what the gun feels like in your hands. As what I like is not what you like etc. the feel is going be very important to you.

HK USP, not metal but I think it's the best handgun I own. HK USP Expert in 45ACP.

Not a semi-auto, but all steel S&W 625 either PC or JM N-frame (I would add X-frame Hogue grips) revolvers are a lot of fun, I liked it enough to get both.
For semi-auto I like Sig 1911 or Dan Wesson (owned by CZ)

Not sure whats on roster right now, but the 220 is a great gun.

I have a kind of rare 220 stainless match elite. 5" barrel with rail.

They didnt make those for very long. German frame assembled in the US. There is a similar model called the hunter which is 10mm.

Although discontinued, the CZ 97B is still listed on-Roster.

That's according to the internet and Kimber bashers.

But according to the ATF records.....they still sell the most 1911 in the US.

I would say, a gently used CZ97 but it doesnt have a rail for a light. Damn good handgun and well priced! 1911s are great. Springfield or Dan Wesson would be my suggestion. Cant go wrong with a P220...go to a range and rent some, see what you like.

About 5 or 6 years ago I was on the hunt for my first 1911, a full size one and I narrowed my choices down to the colt (now called the classic) which was on the Roster at the time, the Springfield Armory Mil Spec, and the Kimber Stainless II. Fortunately there was a gun store here in Costa Mesa that had all three. Of the three the Kimber had a much better trigger so I bought it and never looked back. It is as reliable as any modern polymer gun I own which is to say I cannot remember the last time it had a failure.

Another nod for CZ97B. Not a carry gun. Big and heavy, still a weapon when empty. Accurate and the weight makes recoil tame. Picked up a barely used one after discontinued. Still occasionally see new for sale.
