To keep low lifes from using it in bad ways, such as saying, "Hey, that's my gun that was stolen. Mr Officer Sir, here's the serial number" and other bad things.

But aren't all pistols registered with CA DOJ? All they have to do is take a look and the record will show who the owner is, right?

I guess they could say that you sold it to them in a Private Party Transfer without records (in another state) ... and that it was stolen afterwards.

Totally Agree!

I just listed my Sig 2022 for sale.. trying to switch to an HK USP.. very similar experience. Last week here I picked up a USP 9 and shot a 3.5 inch group with a rental gun that probably has seen 25,000 rounds. It felt more natural, and apparently: more accurate.. My Sig is great... but I can't wait to get an HK!

Nice gun. I've got the same with the same grip! Wish I could shoot that size group at that range though. As great as it feels in my hand, I can't get used to that trigger. Mine's going to Bill as well in the near future - already spoke to him via e-mail.
