    Glock 47

Trying to figure out what was the point of Glock 47 (?). I carry 17 and 19 for years. Don't get what was the idea behind G47.

The point for Glock is $$$. If Glock makes it people will buy it.

17 length slide on a 19x frame (which is a 17 frame with the nose cut off...) One more for people to have...... Guess you can swap the 47 and 19 slides on it - in case you want a shorter slide/barrel.

Not sure how true it is but there are rumors going around that Glock will discontinue the G17 and it will be replaced by the 47.

It will be the next Glock that I buy, been wanting a full size MOS Glock. Torn between a 17 and a 45, the 47 will allow me to have both as I already own a Gen 5 19.

No. That is not happening at this moment. However, per Glock HQ scuttlebutts, they are ceasing production of all Gen 3 models as of June 30th, the end of their fiscal year. Tooling will be made available for next Gen Glocks on all assembly lines.

In Glock's defense, this wasn't supposed to be a civilian model at all. It was Glock nerds demanding it that caused them to release it.

As to why it exists, don't totally know, I suppose it lets you use a 17 and 19 upper on the same frame, where as you can't put a 17 slide on a G45. Don't know who's trying to do that, but they may have also just made a new slide to make use of their production capacity on the G45 molding line. If nothing else it looks good, but I don't think looks matter for the CBP contract.

Here's my understanding of the "why" the G47 exists.

CBP (Customs Border Protection) wanted a full size Glock which used the same RSA (recoil spring assembly) as the G19gen5, which would ease the need to stock one more different spare part.

Does a G19gen5 rsa look similar to a G17gen5 rsa?
                          Does CBP have ~45K+ officers?
                          Was a G47 completely necessary?
Can the US Government waste time & money?
Might some people want to be able mix & match G19 and G17 slides and frames?

Maybe it gives a person or an agency some options, whether that option gets used or not will likely be yes, to some extent.

For me, with a couple of G19gen5, a G17gen5, among several other Glocks, I don't foresee buying one. If I didn't already have the G17gen5, and needed a full or "duty" sized Glock, then I would consider the G47, or maybe the G45.

If you buy a Gen 5 19 and 47, you can mix and match to get 4 different configurations.

                            1. Glock 17 (47)
                            2. Glock 19
                            3. Glock 45
                            4. Reverse Glock 45 (17 slide with 19 frame)

I love my Glock's but this really is just Glock's lame attempt to join the modular handgun club without spending the time and effort to design an actual modular handgun.

                              The Glock 47 slide/barrel can be swapped with a Glock 19Gen5, Glock 19X, and Glock 45 slide/barrel.

                              The Glock 17 Gen 1-5 slide/barrel cannot be swapped with a Glock 19 Gen 1-5 slide/barrel.
