Sig 226

So I'm thinking about getting a P226. I don't shoot .40 but I really like the Equinox. I'm looking at the Sig as my second 9mm to have something else other than my XD. Would I be able to buy the equinox and then get a bar-sto 9mm barrel for it? Would it fit just as well?

I know some of my friends who bought Bar Sto barrels for verious models, and the barrels dropped in just fine.

Are you asking if you can buy a Bar-Sto 9mm barrel for a .40 cal Sig P226 (Equinox)?

If that's the case you might want to e-mail Bar-Sto and ask. I've heard of similar conversions before but there may be issues with the extractor and other tolerance areas.

Rule of thumb....40/357 caliber Sigs can be converted to 9mm and not the other way around.

A barrel would cost about $210, plus mags ($90 for 2). So that was about $300.

I instead bought a P6/P225 for $400 and now I have two pistols.

So, you can go from a 40 to 357 with no issue. Drop in. You can go to a 9mm as well, but some barrels might have a fitment issue. Not all, but some. My understanding is that you can contact BarSto and get another as a replacement. I believe a majority of people have not had issues though.

I second this course of action. I have a 226 in .40 and got a .357 sig barrel, which is sig oem and not bar-sto. Bar-sto DOES NOT guarantee that their barrels are drop in. They actually state that some machining may be required. I have a buddy with a 229 in .40. He bought a bar-sto barrel that does not fit...but just barely. So he needs a millimeter or something machined. So yeah, get a sweet P6 and get the .40.

If you already have a 9mm, stick with 9mm. To keep diversifying to different calibers means you'll have logistical headaches in the future. In fact, why don't you get compact/sub compact XD so you can enjoy mag interchangeability and you'll have a more concealable backup gun.

Sorry, not a big fan of the "2 guns in 1" idea. Bottomline, you only have one gun at the end of the day, and having so many parts makes me question whether just a plain 226 in 9mm would be more reliable than a 226 converted to 9mm from .40
