Wanted to bring this to the attention of other Calgunners.
I purchased a Ruger LC380CA a week ago tomorrow. I have 300 rounds through it of 3 different sorts. Gather now and hear my tale of woe.
It was meant to be a Christmas present. So much for that. When I first examined it, at the LGS, it seemed to have a problem with the slide occasionally not returning to full battery. I was told that It would work itself out after an initial 200 round break in period. It did not. In fact, it never would have been possible for it to.
You see, the Orcs [I thought CZ was the Orcs, no, it's Ruger] at Ruger, at "Mt. Zoom", that is (named for all the meth they smoke), didn't bother to finish the weird double-slotted barrel lug-thing. See, that unrefined piece of slag that they left under there is meant to work with the "breakdown pin" which functions as a sort of bearing. Anyway, It's not a breakdown pin, a bobby-pin is a breakdown pin, their "breakdown-pin" is actually a critical piece of the gun that allows the barrel to re-seat to full battery properly. They super-f***ed that up. It looked like I pulled it from a plastic sprew out of a Testor's model kit.
Indeed, There are videos of some poor folks using the heel of their palm HARD to re-seat the barrel to full battery. I can't live with that, so I fixed it. But that didn't help.
Next up we got the feed issues. This stupid shi-shi iGun is as finicky an eater as everyone says it is. I don't have any finicky eaters in my family, and that's where we are going with this. Hang with me, and I'll land this albatross of a post...
I almost could have lived with the above two, but I went out this morning to confirm #3. It completely fulfills its reputation as a "spray-can". 1-3 rounds and the thing just walks itself off target so far to the left [and who else knows where] that I am not sure I wasn't shooting the target/s in the lane next to me. Used fresh target-stickers, fired. Used different grip positions, fired, Used goofy grip positions, fired. NOTHING. I can't fix that! WTF, Ruger!? I get 1-3 shots that are the usual low and left and then I'm just standing there wondering what I might have shot.
Now the Orcs would like for me to send them this trash, which I have already evaluated for them, so that they can evaluate their own trash. What is this butt-sniffing-by-mail? I'm not a dog. Or an Orc. That's why I have to ask why this crap [regarding the KNOWN issues] is all over the web, with essentially the same handgun platform leading up to these LC/380 things and beyond. And everyone knows this but Ruger?!? that's about 8 years of this nonsense.
Never in my home again. I'll never own another Ruger. They have touched me in a bad place right from the beginning of our tender new relationship. Anywho, off to have it melted down so it can't get back out in to wild and hurt someone.
I'll leave you with two things:
1. Don't buy one of these. Save yourself the trouble, and also the agony of knowing that it's not up to any sort of standards whatsoever due to the unknowable nature of its problems (I know what it is, but I don't want you to all question every single one of the "coke-can" polymer guns that you might have in service). In other words, it can't be fixed, which is why Ruger just loves to send out new slides and barrels every time this happens to a customer.
2. Memberberries the story about the 1922? How no one wants them because first off, Nazis, but also because you can't be sure if they weren't being monkeywrenched by the workers that the Nazis had enslaved.
Why did I just buy a handgun from Arizona that has "California" written all over it? I Suppose I'll go ponder that myself.
