Hellcat RDP Threaded Barrel

Hi there, is there any issue or prohibition on owning or possessing the Hellcat RDP in CA, due to its having a threaded barrel? If so, what is required in order to own/possess this firearm? All assuming of course that is able to be obtained as permitted by CA law.

Threaded barrel in the gun is a no-go, threaded barrel out of the gun is good to go. If you pin and weld the comp onto the barrel the overlords no longer consider it to be threaded since the comp is permanently attached.

If it were me, I'd just grab a non threaded barrel for it, and save the threaded one and comp for when you go out of state, the RDP uses a pretty cool quick detach feature so it only takes a few seconds to install the barrel/comp with no loc-tite involved.

Have the comp pinned and welded, or you can have the thread protector pinned and welded. Another option is to have a fixed magazine with no more than 10 round capacity and that will not require removal or pin weld the threads. Both mod will make it legal to own in CA, but still not roster qualified. You’ll have to buy it via PPT or have some type of exemption.

A semi-auto pistol that does not have a fixed magazine and has a threaded barrel is considered an assault weapon under CA laws. [PC 30515(a)(4)(A)]
^This means it is a felony to import/make/transfer in CA [PC 30600(a)] and a felony to possess in CA [PC 30605(a)].

In order to be CA legal, one of the following must be done before the firearm enters CA:
A. The threaded barrel is replaced with a non-threaded barrel.
B. The threads on the barrel are removed from the threaded barrel.
C. A muzzle brake or thread protector (muzzle nut) is permanently attached (pinned & welded) to the threaded barrel.
D. A 10 round magazine is affixed to the pistol in a manner that it cannot be removed until after the slide is removed from the frame or a 10 round magazine is permanently attached (weld/epoxy/rivet) into the frame.

But if it is sent to a CA FFL with the threaded barrel uninstalled and a non-threaded barrel installed, is that okay?

Unless you are exempt from the roster, the FFL dealer will not be able to deliver it to you.

The barrel will never be able to be removed for cleaning/inspection. It would be legal but I would not call it 'okay'. And 'permanent' means weld or braze, loctite does not count.

what you need is going to the range and shooting it. that's how you get better.

A semi-auto pistol with a threaded barrel is an assault weapon in CA.
You would not be able to transfer or purchase such handgun legally.

The specific gun you are asking about it also off-roster so you need to be roster exempt to get one or get one via a roster-exempt transfer method.

Before it could even transfer, it would need to be converted so that it is not an assault weapon.

The easiest way to do that is to swap the threaded barrel for an unthreaded barrel or get an extra barrel and have the threads removed and install that barrel before the gun arrives at your transfer FFL.
An alternative is to have something perm attached to the barrel so that the threads are not accessible.
