My heavy Smith all stainless 60-7 OWB is the most carried. Low maintenance, no controls -
No doubt they have their place. Until recently most of my handguns were revolvers but I have never really been a fan of short barreled ones. He is right in that they are a lot easier to make go bang and honestly about as reliable as they come.Comment

I love my 44mag revolverComment

Lately?
I agree. Just took out my (new to me) S&W 25-2 in .45acp. Wow. Waaay more fun to shoot than my 29-2
Have picked up 6 revolvers in the last few years. Newest being made in 1980. I am a fan of the wheel guns.
Something about old S&Ws. Blued and wood stockedsigpic

If you are accurate with putting rounds on target then a revolver can be better in many ways. Most people suck at putting rounds on target because they just dont practice often enough so they need something with more roundsPrevious iTrader rating, over 150 Positive ratingsComment

Okay, here’s better…..
And this…..a gun with more than 6 bullets was needed to end the havoc against well armed suspects…

My first duty weapon a Model 27 5 inch, still have today some 35 years later and it still looks and shoots great. I bought a 6 inch a few years ago and it’s ok. My GP100 is awesome a 4 inch. Those three 38/357s are awesome. My DW 22 pack has over 7k rounds thru it on just the 4 and 6 inch barrels. Obviously I love shooting it. Ever since I retired the 5 inch 27 though and went to the sig I’ve never carried anything but semi autos for work / carry. Yes love revolvers, but they aren’t my essential guns anymore,1. Compared to what?
2. At what cost?
3. What hard evidence do you have?

A revolver doesn’t leave brass all over the ground, where people can slip and fall on it.
A revolver will keep your fired brass safe from brass thieves at the range.

"Better"? As a mostly-revolver sort of fellow, I cannot agree across the board. "Better in some ways"? Sure, I can go for that. Revolvers don't have a slide to get caught up in a coat or jacket pocket if you have to fire from within said pocket. There is no "tap rack bang" ritual, no stovepiping, no failure to cycle, no magazine feeding problems, etc.
With that said....
Semi-auto pistols also, obviously, have their place. That's why they're so popular today. It's why the 1911 and Luger pistols became popular.
It all depends on what kind of shooting you intend to do. If you're going up against several armed opponents, then unless you're Jerry Miculek, a semi-auto pistol probably is the better choice. If you're going up against one well-armed adversary, either will do the job handily. If you're going up against something bigger and tougher, I'll always call for the wheelgun, because .357M, .44M, and .454C are available in that platform.
The feel is different as well, between revolver and semi-auto pistol. Some like the semi-auto pistol feel. Some prefer the revolver feel. My wife shoots her sixgun better than she shoots any semi-auto pistol, so that's what she sticks with. She has trouble racking a slide, and the feel of the slide cycling is, for her, a somewhat disturbing feeling.
For reloaders, chasing brass that comes out of a semi-auto pistol can get...shall we say, more challenging as we get older. Revolvers are much easier that way. Also, a revolver can safely handle a much wider range of loads from "mild" to "wild" better than a semi-auto pistol can, by nature of the differeing actions. Think .38/357, 44 Spl/Mag, .45LC/454C, and so on--that sort of thing.
I happen to like and enjoy both. I freely acknowledge that my favorite handgun to shoot is the S&W M629, loaded with .44 Special. Behind that is the Ruger Security-Six in .357M, and right after that is the Glock 21, my favorite semi-auto pistol.Last edited by Cowboy T; 11-03-2022, 9:41 PM."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"
