    Dan Wesson Commander 01912 CBOB

Wanting to buy a different Commander 1911 thinking about a Dan CBOB. CA OK and available on Gun Joker, etc. Like the look and build but not really a Dan Fan.

I have COLTs. I like COLTs. I shoot COLTs. With exception towards my 1999 Canadian Made Para P13-45 Limited; if it doesn't have a Horsey on it haven't really been interested.

Dan has good reviews and alot into it for the $$$.

What say the Dan Fans here?

    Thank you, Dave

I'm not a big Commander length 1911 fan, but for some reason, I seem to feel the need to pick up a DW CBOB every few years. In my opinion, DW continues to improve the quality of these to the point I now think they're about as good as they can get at their price point. My most recent, which I bought early this year, has excellent slide to frame (Only very slight movement at the front, blending at the rear is excellent), barrel fit (No movement at either the bushing or hood), beavertail fit and trigger that rivals my WC and NHC guns (Crisp, no creep at about 4 lbs). I did personalize it a bit by changing the rear sight to an Ed Brown 10-8 style all black "U" notch ledge, a Harrison Design smooth faced medium trigger with an internal trigger stop, and some VZ 320 slim grips. Haven't shot it yet but I've dry fired the crap out of it. I think for the money, it's a tough gun to beat.

I'm not sure if this one's a keeper, or it'll go the way of all the other Commanders I've had over the years. (Except for my DW Valkyrie in 9mm, it's a keeper!). May end up in the For Sale section eventually, but a great gun, nonetheless.

^^^ That's a beautiful finish and a keeper in my book. Then again, I don't own any 1911s.

I have a Valor in .45. Love the gun great shooter and accurate. Build quality for a production 1911 is amazing. Only production 1911 that gets close is my Sig 1911 TacOps.

Have you handled a DW 1911 pistol?

I have plenty of Colts, from +80 year old 1911s to current Gold Cup NM bought during the "it's C&R OK" tenure to their WWI "Black Army" repro. I rehabed a later model Commander that someone had slapped on all sorts of foolishness and gave it a Series 70 look.

I like the gun. Kind of wished Colt had managed to center and print the model info in a straight line though .....

            I bought a CBOB and a PM7 years back ($800.00 each - quite a while) and a 5" fixed sight whose model I don't recall. I think side by side they're a better gun.

Slide to frame fit on the DW is solid. As is barrel hood and link fitment to the slide and frame. Trigger pull on the DW is clean and crisp. If some want to attribute this to "series 70 vs series 80" - OK. I think it's due to better finish work.

Colt tends to use a "one size fits all" duckbill grip safety tang - it doesn't mate well with the frame. DW is mated to the frame.

Colt still has a mushy down stroke on the thumb safety, DW is a solid stop.

Trigger on the DW is all metal, Colt uses plastic on alot of theirs.

I suppose finish is highly subjective. DW is a pretty spartan brushed stainless as opposed to Colt's bead blasted matte.

I probably buy Colt because it's a Colt - same reason for buying their SAA over a Standard Manufacturing or USFA type.

It funny, because CZ owns Dan Wesson (2005) and Colt (2021).

Maybe the OP is sick and tired of owning quality and reliability and now wants to go slumming in the 1911 copycat neighborhood.

Save your money. Continue buying Colt.

Still salty they discontinued the revolvers. I think CZ only bought back .357 as well. They need to roll both frame sizes into their new revolver division.

I like my CBoB - changed out the rear sight to a Heinie Straight Eight and also the MSH to snakeskin.

Apparently in some production years, the CBoB left the factory with the hammer still in the white. I only noticed this after carrying it and started to notice a tarnish on the hammer. Couple coats of Cold Blue fixed that problem. For the price, Dan Wesson makes a solid 1911.

I didn’t like my CBob at first. The front strap was much rougher than all my other pistols. Eventually I got used to it. I did add slim grips. Now it’s one of my favorite and best shooters.
