    Springfield Prodigy Update

Well, I finally got an opportunity to take the Prodigy out for another run. For a brief recap, the first time out did not go well:

Trigger was heavier than most 1911's.
Accuracy was very good. Not Les Baer, Wilson or NHC good, but better than most mass produced guns.
The muzzle flip was outrageous. Probably the worst 9mm muzzle flip I've ever experienced and I shoot P365s and P938s regularly.
THE GUN WAS A JAM O MATIC. Nearly every round jammed unless I held it in a death grip.

The gun would hang up the slide stop takedown slot if you worked the slide slowly.

    Today's results.

The trigger was heavier than most 1911s, but better than most striker fired guns. (The new Timney Glock trigger has a longer pull, but gives the Prodigy a run for its money.)

Accuracy is still very good. I shot a 5 shot group at 7 yards resting on the bench that was slightly bigger than a bullet diameter. That's the best I can do with my tired old eyes.

Muzzle flip was not a noticeable issue. In fact, until I was writing this review, I didn't even realize that I did not have a comparable metric. That being the case, I'd have to say that the gun was shooting pretty flat.

NO JAMS. NO DEATH GRIP. I only shot 50 rounds today, but there was no reason to shoot more. The gun ate three different loads without an issue.

No more issues with the slide dragging, catching and staying open while cycling over the slide stop takedown slot.

What changed? I switched out the stock recoil spring for a 12lb 1911 Commander spring. The stock spring was like a limp noodle. I read that SA was using 9lb spring instead of a 12lb spring. I believe that. I think whoever was installing the recoil springs a SA found it difficult to install the 12 lb springs and so they installed the 9 lb springs. Make no mistake, installing that 12lb spring is a PITA.

    Final Verdict:
While this is a sample size of one, I think think this is a great gun for the money. I may look into upgrading the trigger, but first I'll just try to get used to it.
Working...
