    Colt python: 3" or 4.25"?

I've budgeted for either a 4.25" or 3" Python, and the Anaconda 8" (hopefully).

I'm primarily a range shooter and don't carry, but something about the 3" appeals to me, and i'm not entirely sure why? I suppose whichever python I choose will be another home defense weapon.

Both are aesthetically pleasing (duh - likely one of the sexiest guns ever made), but I'm having trouble finding actual accuracy comparisons of the two... Makes me wish old Jeff Quinn was still around as he likely would have done full reviews, with targets and available ammo.

Which would you choose and why?

I'm thinking of sportsman warehouse. They have the 4.25" in stock, but I reckon they'll still offer the 3" at MSRP, no? I'm patient, too.

Plus, I want the Anaconda too much as i don't reload and love the .44mag and it's availability for that reason. Only one python and one Anaconda

I would say the 4.25" for me, just the right size and feel for me, why not get all 3? It's just money right?

As soon as they announced the 3" model, and I saw the photographs, I thought it was the best aesthetically. You are not alone OP.

I guess it depends on what else you have in your quiver. Lots of companies produce a 3". I think the new pythons have a better trigger than say a modern Kimber K6, Smith, PC Smith or Ruger (out of the box)

Well, that might change in the distant future, but my budget is set on the anaconda, too.

4.25" is probably a better shooter. I have a 3" rossi .38 spl and its a fun gun to shoot, not bad like a snubby, not nose heavy like a longer barrel. If you ever plan on shooting full power .357, go with the longer barrel.

Thats part of it... I don't own a J frame but always wanted one. I'd have to find an early one as I don't like the hillary hole. Having never compared the two directly, i'm guessing the 3" is closer to a K frame?

Something about the 3in that it doesnt look right to me. Python is a large gun. 4in looks balanced.

I stopped by the Stockton Turners a couple of days ago. They had both 4.25" & 3" Colt Python in the case. I got to fondle both. I really liked the 3" snake. The single/double trigger action is butter smooth, truly amazing...

I have a 4" S&W 27-9 and I knew the double action trigger was clunky, but after playing with the Colt Python, I have no words. I ordered a Wilson Combat "Custom Tune" spring kit that will hopefully smooth out the Smith trigger...

I guess Gruesom is sending out more (not) free money. I may use the tree fitty I should get and use it to help offset the purchase of a really awesome firearm...
