this guy is using a Philippine 1911 so he's not risking a lot of money if it slowly beats to death. Sportsman probably has them for about $440 or so.

45 Super, 460 Rowland, 50 GI and all the others including 45 ACP +P is overrated for Self Defense or Home Defense. If you go into the woods carry a Magnum revolver if it makes you feel better.

I converted trp full rail to super. Why? I wanted to load 45 and acp is boring so I though let’s try something new. In retrospect it was a horrible idea. Chasing casings at the range sucks. I though about those bags that collect ejected casings but those suck. But I like stout cartridges so it is cool overall. Kick is noticeably stronger from 45 acp. Home defense? Overkill. Cool factor? For sure. Still I hate looking for spent shells so I rarely go shoot it. My wheel guns are my go to range fun. 45 colt. Only cartridge you will ever need. Load from fun cowboy loads to hot hunting 44 magnum beating loads. Can use in rifle.

That's when one should use a heavier (+/-250 gr), better-designed bullet like the Keith/Croft semiwadcutter.

You toss a heavy spring in and install a flat bottom firing pin stop. Thats all you need to shoot super. It's still relatively low pressure.

Honestly, it's not fun to shoot. Maybe fun for a novelty to pop off a few and show friends, but it's not like you're going to run through 300 rounds of 45 super at the range.

Hot rods already come with big *** engines. You don’t see a Tacoma running top fuel with a blower on it.

When I want bigger, I just pull out my Freedom arms .454 Casull or my S&W500 6.5.” No need to beat the slides and receivers of a gun designed for one caliber, but squeezing a bigger (((BOOM))) down it’s throat.

A bit off topic but FWIW: An HK Mark 23 can shoot 45 Super without mods. And I'm pretty sure you can also shoot 45 Super out of USP45's without mods.

I can run 45 Super in my 460Rs if I feel like taking it easy that day.

USP 45 are designed to run 45 Super out of the box. At least according to H&K's advertisement.

45 Super uses the same chamber, same size, weight bullet, except higher velocity, pretty much like hot-rodding an existing engine.

As mentioned, 45 Super is not that much more than 45 APC, still lower pressure round. If one really want to "pump it up", try it with 460R or 40 Super.
