Trying to strip this thing down to replace a failed ejection spring. Problem is, all of the online take down videos show a firing pin stop plate with 1 hole.....mine has 2. You are supposed to push in the firing pin from the single hole, and the block plate slides down. But as you can see, I have 2 pins protruding. Thoughts?

That's the special California safe drop device. Just grow an extra hand and depress both at the same time.

You don't have to put them both back in. Set one aside in a baggy for the distant future.

I seem to remember that there was a problem with MKXIX guns where they had a tendency for the firing pin and block to fly out while shooting. I've never heard of a CA model doing that - although I detest the law that requires that feature..

Yup...that was the reason for the tear down. It was nothing but black crumbles. Replaced it along with the extractor while I was in there.

All back together and functioning properly. Gonna try to sneak out to the range in the AM and fire off a box or two. Thanks again.

Most likely this. If it were a drop safe device, it would be affected by the trigger in some way and, as currently designed, would be an impediment to the force of the hammer strike regardless of whether you drop the pistol or pull the trigger.

I looked at the diagrams in the document that Skyhawk posted. It looks like it has a counteractive action to the firing pin and locks the plate in place against the slide as the hammer strikes it. If I were to guess, the DE probably uses a lighter hammer spring for an improved trigger pull, which also requires a lighter firing pin spring so that you don't end up with light strikes. However, since the firing pin is the only thing that holds the plate on, a lighter firing pin spring could result in releasing the plate, so a second plate retention pin that moves forward into the slide could help lock it in place when the firing pin is in the forward position. That's all speculation on my part, but makes the most sense. I have no experience with Desert Eagles, but a lot of experience with 1911's, which also holds the firing pin in using a plate.

Personally, I would leave it installed if it's not hurting anything.

Hello, I have both MK7 and MK19 DE and did have the plate and firing pin fly out of my old one...had to replace the firing pin spring and that fixed that...

On my MK19 I wanted to get rid of the CA BS since yea you need 3 hands and be careful not to launch bits or scratch the crap out of the slide if you slip. I tried getting a new regular plate fron Magnum research and they said they could not supply me the parts since I live in god awful state. Finally had to have spare firing pins,springs,recoil spring set and 2 std plates sent to a firend and he mailed them to me.. total BS that if you own a old version of a gun and the maker wont send you the correct bits to fix due to living in a pos state.

IF you ever need to get a 'non Kommiefornia model' bit you may run into this also.

Mine is in 44 Magnum. When the polymer or hard rubber extractor spring turned into dust of course extraction problem occurred. I opted for an AR15 extractor spring with polymer insert.

I ended up getting what was in stock. I bought it during the AR15 parts scarcity from Brownells. Depending on the O-ring size you may not be able to utilize it.

I purchased a new non California plate and firing pin from Numrich gun parts. I lived in cali back then and had no issues with shipping about 3 years ago. Mine was a 44 mag but part should be the same. Not an expert. Just a guy who got rid of my plate already.

For the next bewildered CA DE owner who finds this thread....... you depress and hold the lower button slightly then press in the firing pin button. Once you do that, you can let go of the first pin and slide out the blocking plate.
