    P226 or P229?

Law enforcement officers and Calguns members: In 9 mm, P226 or P229?

I'll be purchasing a pistol by the end of the year, as I don't like protecting my apartment with just a .22. However, I'd like to get used to a commonly used sidearm in law enforcement. I already do a little bit of what's in this thread here, but I'm doing it with a S&W 422.
From Sacramento, Calif. My wife gave me six slots for weapons. As of 3/23/10, I'm thinking: CZ 75 BD in 9 mm, Glock 19, a FS2000, a Springfield M1A (Standard), Marlin 336 in .30-30, and a CZ 452 bolt-action .22-caliber rifle.

    I voted 226 for 9mm.

    40/357 - 229.

I see many people buying a P229 as a CCW.

              I have a P226 40 Cal, but just also bought a P6 9mm. I just target shoot.

If it is for home protection, why not a P220 45ACP...the costs is about the same.

P229 is better, it's not like the added size and weight of the 226 equates to a larger mag, both hold 10. For home defense go p229 in .40

Own both and much prefer the 229 for several reasons.

I was actually thinking about .357 SIG and 9 mm, as .40-caliber is not a cartridge I'm very apt with. Sounds like I could go either way.

Home defense is part of the game, but I figure either gun would be suitable for that. Feels like a lot of police departments still have P228s instead of P229s.

Treb5 — why do you prefer the 229?

                      Milled slide: P226 9mm > P229 9mm
                      Stamped slide: P226 ≥ P228

.357sig is a great round. That being said be prepared to spend a lot of money on ammo, for both practice and home defense. Also finding .357sig can be a pain in the ***.

.357 is really no different than +p+ 9mm, plus you get 3-5 extra rounds.

Are you LE? Will you be carrying it often? Definitely the P228/9.

I love shooting my P229. If you need more velocity and a heavier gun for more accuracy @ distance, go with the P226.

                            Did I mention I love my P229?

The P226 seems to be a less-common sidearm in law enforcement. I wish there was a database or something listing what LE agencies carried, instead of random wiki pages.
