Original Colt Python

Have any idea on what these are currently worth? One of my dads friends recently passed and he has a pristine Colt Python, the original one. His wife doesn't want it. I know I can't afford it because I would want to be fair. She has guys talking to her about it but I told my dad to let her know its a highly collectible gun and worth $$, don't let some guy offer you $500!

Also, I assume she would somehow have to get it transferred into her name to be able to legally sell it since the husband passed?

What finish, barrel length, does it have box and papers? Original grips? This all makes a big difference.

But the biggest variable is condition - what is pristine to a normal shooter might be a dumpster fire to a Colt collector.

I've seen it and handled it myself. It's a 6" blued version, original grips, box and paperwork. Not sure of the year made but definitely the original python. Not a mark on it and from what he told me before he passed, not shot very much at all.

I seriously doubt it is "the original python". Maybe a vintage Python, early run Python, but not "the original python".

let's go with vintage. By original I meant not the reintroduced ones. I'll see if I can get the serial number and do the search to find out what year it is.

Negative. Long as she has a unexpired CA DL or ID she can ppt.

No. But, a steady diet of .357 magnum loads has been known to throw the timing off.

Nope, never heard any problems myself nor heard of anyone I know having issues.
