    Gripe: Sig Sauer Policy

Let the pissing and moaning begin:

I just purchased a new Sig P226 DAK, .40 S&W. It arrived at the dealer the other day. I was excited it had finally arrived.

Upon opening the case, I was disappointed to see only one 10 rd magazine. I do not mind paying top dollar for one of the best brands in the industry. However, I also expect to receive at least two magazines with that top dollar purchase. It feels a bit like I've been bamboozled. Now I've got to go spend another $45-$55 for a 2nd mag, not to mention the shipping expense and extra time (because my gun shop does not have any left in stock).

The money is not much, but the principle is. I emailed "customer service" at Sig and received this message:

"Starting in March we began shipping our pistols out with one magazine due to a shortage of magazines. On July 3rd upper management decided that any pistol that was manufactured from that day forward will be shipped with two magazines. Your pistol was manufactured in March and shipped out in July so unfortunately your pistol was only shipped with one magazine. If you would like to order additional magazines you may call our retail sales rep.
His name is Andrew Sargent and his direct line is 603-418-8132. I believe he is currently running a special on magazines. We apologize for the inconvenience."

I replied and lobbied for them to make-good and just send one to me. I was politely rebuffed.

I guess when business is good, customer service can be ignored and it's easier to offer an excuse rather than a fair solution.

The cost for a new mag is mice nuts for me to buy one (and even less for Sig), but the principle of this policy has soured me. Unfortunately, I believe this may be my first and last Sig, which blows since I was looking forward to a couple more.

    Rant over.

    That really blows.

    Sorry to hear that man.

Maybe you or your dealer should try to talk to the Distributor.

I would think the Distributor would have more pull.
Hell, if the Distributor is nice they will just give you a mag.

They have reversed this policy and are now shipping guns with 2 magazines again. Call them and see if they will ship you another one. The worst they can say is no.

Yeah, it'd be nice if the distributor would work it out, but I won't hold my breath. They were completely out of all sig mags.

And as of now, any Sig manufactured after July 3rd, will include two mags. Sounds like management acknowledged their error (probably due to lot's of disgruntled dealers) and fixed the problem for all new guns being sold. They just won't fix the problem for the folks who bought guns manufactured during that short four month period.

Does seem kinda crappy that they wouldn't just send you one since they're selling the new ones with 2 mags.

Did they increase the cost of the new ones over what you paid?

If you are not satisfied take the gun back and get a refund.

10rd Sig mags shouldn't be that much unless you are paying full bore.

Check CDNN Investments. And don't be afraid of MecGar mags for Sigs, either - I'm pretty sure they make Sig's mags for 'em anyway.

As you might be able to tell from my nick on this forum---I'm darn near a Sig zealot, but the honest truth is both Sig customer service and quality of their products appears to be going down hill.

I've defended Sig against numerous posts that talk like I just did----but its getting hard to deny at this point.

The last 2 Sigs I have bought---were on the used market---and they are ROCK solid...

                    Anyone wanna Mosquito?

ETA: +1 to BWeidse comment. MecGar is a fine Sig mag....never had a problem with one myself. Also, check the SigForum.com classified section, often lots of vendors sell mags there for 40-60% retail cost.

Can't take it back. They had to order it for me (25% non-refundable deposit).

I was going to by some extra mags and looked at Mec-Gar, but from what I can see, they do not sell the 10 rd 40 cal mags for the P226 (which is strange since I'm pretty sure they make them OEM for Sig). I emailed Mec-Gar, but did not receive a response (surprise!).

When I receive crappy customer service I like to share my experience with others (same goes for when I receive exceptional service). Anyway, it's not the end of the world.

You're not the only one in this situation.

Head over to SIGForum for some good information, but many share the same gripe as you currently do.

Sorry to hear yours fell within the dreaded March-July timeline, that does seriously blow.

I read over on Sigforum that people that purchased a handgun from a certain time period where they came with only 1 magazine were being taken care of. Maybe I was wrong, but I do know for sure that the policy has been changed back to including 2 magazines per gun.

                            Indeed.

EXETER, NH (June 5, 2009) – SIG SAUER, the leading manufacturer of military, law enforcement, government agency and commercial firearms, will resume shipping all standard commercial pistols with two magazines. SIG SAUER suppliers increased production to meet the heightened consumer demand, thus allowing SIG SAUER to resume shipping two magazines with every commercial handgun.

Previously, SIG SAUER had announced effective March 20, 2009, that all standard commercial pistols would ship with a single magazine. Models that included more than two magazines were not affected. Shipments to distributors and dealers with the two magazines in each pistol will commence immediately.

If you don't like only getting one mag, do yourself a favor and don't buy a Kimber.
