Sharpshooters for FFL?

Hey folks, I know this has been discussed before, I searched but came up with surprisingly little. Sorry for a threepeat on this matter but I gotta get this figured out today.

Who has used Sharpshooters in Torrance for an FFL? I'm needing to do a transfer from out of state with a place that's open on Sunday with a normal cost. Sharpshooters charges $75. Martin Rettting wants $100 plus CA sales tax on the gun, plus $25. I'd go with Ade's (super nice on the phone), but it's so far away from West LA and they're not open Sundays. Thanks in advance for any opinions on Sharpshooters.

You may want to call Insight Range. I've done PPT's there and they are great; you will have to call them to see if their $50 fee includes the DROS for out of state purchases:

I have done transfers at Sharpshooters, no problem with one exception. Avoid the manager, tall guy with a mustache. All the guys there are cool except the manager, he is extremely rude, act like he is doing you a favor just to acknowledge you, I have been going to Sharpshooters for many years and just cannot understand his attitude, I have always been polite to him, maybe that’s the problem.
Don’t talk about this site some that work there think it’s a joke full of nut jobs. Also you may want to check they will do a transfer on Sunday.

I've only done regular PPT's there. I know they don't like it, but they don't have much inventory to even complain about the competition.

Try Michael Suchar. He has his FFL at home in the LAX area and has better accommodating hours. I've done a ton of transfers through him

$60 + tax but he will ask you what YOU what you paid for the gun for the BOE tax. My only suggestion is to be reasonable.

Went w/ Sharpshooters due to time constraints. Will give a report once I'm done.

I've transferred two pistols through them from out of state. They'll ask about what type of gun it is etc.... but overall pretty easy transactions. A little slow sometimes and make you buy a lock.

I use them because they are priced the same as most others around and it's convenient. Read good things about Suchar, but could never get them to answer the phone.

I haven't had any problems with them. I've had things shipped from elsewhere in the state, but not out of state. They are worth a try if they are close to you.

I just did an out of state transfer at Ammo Bros that went super smooth. They only charge $75 including DROS as well.

I've done a few of out-of-state FFL transfers through them and never had a problem. They are only a few miles from work so I've always run down there at lunch and it's never taken me more than 20 minutes. Like you said, $75. Just not worth the drive/wait for me to go to someone else to save $10.

Fred is the one that Southbay is talking about. I know what he means...Fred just is the way he is. I've been going there for 15+ years, so it doesn't bother me in the least. If you've never met him before, yeah, he may put you off.

Hope everything goes well. All of my OOS FFL transfers have been through them lately. Just too fast and convenient for me to go anywhere else. I've asked if they have a problem with it (as in don't like doing it due to all the paperwork), but they said they don't have a problem with it in the least.....

I have used Sharpshooters for many FFL/PPT/transfers, never a problem.

i agree he seems pretty rude at times, the other guy (he black i think) I usualy see is cool.

Yeah, Fred's the older guy with the mustache. I used to think he was a grouch when I first started going there, but after you get to know him, he's a great guy. I never waste his time and he doesn't waste my time. I just walk in and tell him what I want and we're done. I actually prefer this to the gun shop guys who try to act like my best friend and call me "buddy" or ask me how I'm doing when they couldn't really care less.

I highly recommend Sharpshooter.

I have been shooting at Sharpshooter for around 20 years and Fred has always been there. He also has witnessed almost every kind of stupid behavior that shooters have committed. If he seems rude to you, it may be
that he is not interested in your new toy of the week, because he has played with them before, and if he is not interested in your mall ninja stories
it might be because when you were pissing your diapers he was jumping out of airplanes with the Army, and if he growls at you about bringing out a firearm off the line with the slide not locked open and a mag inserted, it might be because he has seen accidents happen, and he has heard I didn't know the gun was loaded more than once. Lighten up, he has been the
one constant at the range that never changes, knows his stuff, and if his
people skills are not what you consider warm and fuzzy shoot somewhere
else. I am sure that he would agree with me on the last point.
