I live in Sacramento county and removed the annoying tab chamber indicator on my smith and Wesson shield. Does this need to be put back if I use this firearm for a CCW? I know it is just considered off-roster now because of the altering, but I should still be able to use it?

Removing MP9 Shield Chamber Indicator and CCW

I wonder why the indicators are so annoying to some, I can't see it when I am shooting the gun. I do hate the Hillary hole a few of my revolvers have though.sigpic

My Shield 1.0 has it, I've carried it for almost 7 years and I never even notice it. While I don't like it because of WHY it has to be there, in practice, it's a non-issue. Gun lives in a holster

I sold my Shield in 2016 and I don't even remember if it had the LCI. My Sig P238 has it, and it's a non-issue for me. My guns are always loaded and I know it and everybody who looks into the barrel of my gun will know it as well, chamber indicator or not.
That said, I personally wouldn't remove a safety device on a carry gun. What difference does it make on a gun that is hidden on your hip? The lock on the S&W revolvers bothers me a great deal more, but I wouldn't remove that one either.Comment

Removing the LCI does not make it off-roster.
Like TAS said, you must check with your issuing agency for what they allow.
I personally removed the LCI on mine, not because I could see it while shooting, but I just think its ugly and for $20 it was a cheap fix.Comment

Why would you think that?
The model was put on the Roster with the LCI/CLI installed. It's part of the mechanicals of the gun; it's not included here:32030.
(a) A firearm shall be deemed to satisfy the requirements of subdivision (a) of Section 32015 if another firearm made by the same manufacturer is already listed and the unlisted firearm differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the following features:
(1) Finish, including, but not limited to, bluing, chrome-plating, oiling, or engraving.
(2) The material from which the grips are made.
(3) The shape or texture of the grips, so long as the difference in grip shape or texture does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
(4) Any other purely cosmetic feature that does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
That usually doesn't matter, but that's certainly a question for the Issuing Agency.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

So wouldn’t it be based on the SKU when it’s purchased though? Doesn’t that determine if it’s on roster or not? I’m most likely super wrong lol but based on that, wouldn’t I be able to sell my CA roster shield for double MSRP solely on removing the LCI and call it off roster?

SKUs are not printed on guns, only on boxes. If someone puts a free state Shield into a CA SKU box and sends it in to the state, that box does not make the gun magically on roster.Comment

The roster is not based on SKU. The roster is based on configuration. SKU are listed on the roster for some guns to help people identify what might be a roster gun, but ultimately the configuration is all that matters.

I know we all hate the roster for this reason, so according to this, I now have an off roster shield because I installed the LCI delete? Even though it started as a roster offering? Lol
