Need to replace Sig P229 guide rod/spring

Anyone done this? Where did you get the parts, and do they come separately, or together, like a Glock captured guide rod and spring?

I checked Brownells, and couldn't tell if I needed to purchase these parts separately. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

you can get it directly from Sig. They will replace it if it is defective.

You can also purchase at Top Gun Supply.

You must have shot the hell out of that P229. I know people who have had their P229 (including myself) for 4+ years and we never needed to replace it.

PS I went roughly 15 years with probably over 10k rounds with the stock spring. I replaced it because it seemed like a good idea, not because it was failing to function.

I got a 226 and went with one of these

I also replaced the spring with a wolff and ended going back with a factory sig spring
the wolff spring was not as thick of material and caused the guid rod to rock up and down

I picked up a bedair SS one for my 226. It works perfect with the stock spring and doesnt look to bad either.

Got the gun used, and had Trijicon sights put on it today. The guy installing said the spring looked fatigued.

Maybe I'll just replace the spring. Thanks for the feedback.

That's odd, how does one "see" spring fatigue??

I would shoot the gun till the spring goes out then put a new one in on
SIG's dime.

I would also steer clear of the "Spring Whisperer" as well.
