    Which 1911 to get?

I want to get my first 1911. I have about $750.00 to spend. Any recommendation?

Kimber Custom II. Sells for about $750. Fantastic full-size, entry-level gun, with a lot of "custom" features. You may hear a bunch of malarkey about Kimbers not working 100% out of the box. Baloney. Run 500 rounds through it over a couple days; even if you do have any issues, they clear up after 500 rounds.

Can be modified like any 1911 (custom grips, all the bells and whistles). Fantastic gun.

I would recommend a kimber custom also. I have a early kimber custom and I had a kimber gold match. Both have very good triggers at about 3.5lb. Both are very accurate. I have shot a couple of springfield loaded models and the stock triggers seem alot heavier than the kimbers. In fact I had a armscor tactical that had a better trigger than springfield loaded models. I just took my Kimber Custom II to the range today. Great gun.

            (Springfield has a lifetime warranty.)

i recently bought my first 1911 and i was blessed with the good luck and fine tatse to buy a kimber eclipse ultra. wow. i have been shooting shotguns and rifles for a while but only in the last couple of years have i started shooting pistols. the 1911 being my 7th or 8th pistol i am pissed that someone didndnt sell me on them sooner. having a glock 30 i was skeptical about shooting a .45 round out of such a small frame but i can honestly say that i shoot better with the kimber eclipse on day 1 then i do with my glock 26, 27, or 30. some guys might tell you to get a mid to full size but at least shoot the ultra first. iam already looking for my next kimber ultra.
Iam a good shot. At least i think i would be. Iam a good free throw shooter.

I have a Kimber Custom II Target (adjustable sights) and I love it but I would also give a big thumbs up to the Springfield range of pistols.

Kimbers have the Swartz firing-pin safety, which is operated by the grip safety. Nothing wrong with it (I haven't had any problems) but it is a few more moving parts to go wrong. The Springers are closer to the original 1911 design.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

Awesome for me to come by this thread. I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I've been eyeballing the Kimber Custom...

I'd find a range and shoot a couple. Some people swear by Kimber Firearms. I would be one of them and I don't even own one. I'm picking up my first 1911 and it's a S&W. I've always shot S&W guns well. Owned a 686 and an M&P and loved both when I went shooting. Handle a couple also.

Hm, perhaps i should pick up a kimber too since all posters here own/ shoot/ like/ love them. I love my Springfield Operator, but i have to give the other guys a chance too. looks like time to buy another 1911

Springfield Armory "Loaded". Unlike a Kimber (the Chevy of 1911s) they have a lifetime warranty and are almost always 100% right out of the box. Or for just a few bucks more you could have the Cadillac - a S&W SW1911. Deadly accurate, super reliable, awesome trigger, and a lifetime warranty.

*Note that the S&W photo is wrong, they no longer have the huge "billboard" markings.
