G27 to 9MM

I'm attempting to use a conversion barrel and magazine in my G27 (40 S&W). New barrel and mag inserted but even with good power 9MM loads I'm getting some failures to extract. it seems the rounds are getting stuck during ejection. I'm thinking I need a reduced recoil spring to allow the slide to continue all the way back. Any thoughts here would be helpful hopefully from people having a similar problem.

It is my carry gun and NO at this time I won't be putting it into my carry regiment. I would have to add it to my license as another caliber here in O.C. I'm not interested in that at this point nor is it reliable. I'm only looking for less expensive plinking and practicing ammo. Not to stir the fire, but I want the 40 S&W as my primary caliber for self defense. No offense intended.

If you had both a G27 and a G26, both use the same RSA (recoil spring assembly). It's Glock part #2211. Therefore, I don't think the problem is the RSA, but you could try another one.

I'd just carry .40 for now, then when convenient, buy a G26gen3 (Gen3 unless exempt from the Roster).

I've no direct experience using conversion barrels, but unless there's some kind of return or warranty on the aftermarket barrel, you're likely on your own to debug whatever needs debugging. I haven't generally heard many or any problems with these conversion barrels for a G27 .40 to 9mm, but you may be just unlucky on this issue.

Might need a 9 extractor. I know some conversion barrels are designed to work with the .40 extractor, but YMMV

Swap out the extractor and ejector for 9mm to avoid issues. They’re not the same part for .40 and 9mm.

Sorry for the stupid question, but did you get a g27 conversion barrel, or use a standard 9mm one for a g26? From what I understand, the 40sw barrel is thicker than the g26 9mm, so it will give you slop and extraction issues in the g27 slide. Plus the conversion's bore is slightly offset so the stock ejector can be used.

I have an Alpha Wolf g27 9mm conversion barrel, and it works flawlessly with g26 and g27 mags. Didn't need to change out the recoil spring.

You may want to contact the barrel manufacturer to see what they will do for you.

I purchased a conversion barrel from the San Diego Glock Store. I'll give them a call and see if they have any suggestions. Thank you for that lead.

It's a little late but might be of some information. I have a well worn Gen3 Glock 27.
Somewhere along the line I got a KKM 40-9 conversion barrel.
I swap between barrels for teaching others and personal training fairly regularly.
I also use random ammo. Sometimes questionable ammo.
I swap mags and use whatever Glock style 9mm or .40 mag is nearby.
I don't recall ever having a failure with that setup.
At one time I had a Lone Wolf .357 barrel for it but that needed fitting and was as inaccurate as it was punishing.

I have Gen3 23c and have both Barsto and KKM 9mm barrels for it. The KKM is more accurate than both the factory and Barsto barrels.

Reload using cast projectiles, similar power factor ammo as your defensive ammo

Weight the 40-9 conversion barrel and compare the weight with the OEM 40 barrel. I’m guessing the extra weight of the conversion barrel dictates a lighter RSA or shoot more powerful 9mm rounds if you reload. My G35 with 40-9 conversion and OEM RSA did not reliably cycle 115 grain factory loads, but it was fine with 124 grain factory loads although barely chucking the spent cases 3 feet.

So to do it 100% properly you should also switch to a 9mm extractor and ejector. The .40 extractor only gets 45% of the rim purchase that the 9mm will. Sometimes it works fine but others it does not. It’s a simple swap. The ejector is permanently fixed into the black trigger pack, they’re not expensive but a tiny bit more complicated to swap out. Any Glock armorer should be able to swap out both parts in a couple minutes, you could probably pull it off with some YouTube time.

Unlike some other brands, such as the S&W M&P series, the extractor and ejector are NOT the same for 9mm and .40 S&W Glocks. You can run a .40 converted to 9mm without swapping those parts. However, as you are seeing, the results are less than 100% reliable. Both parts can be had online for under $30 together. And swapping them out takes about 15 minutes. 5 for the extractor and 10 for the ejector. YouTube may or may not be your friend, depending on what the electronic overlords have decided to censor this week. However, videos on how to do this are out there and readily available. If you are planning on doing this conversion long term, or are planning to use this as a carry gun, I highly, highly recommend swapping those parts out. Hold on to the old parts though. Put them and the .40 barrel in a ziplock bag with a paper tag stating what they are. So if you need to swap it back to .40 somewhere down the road, you can.
