    Walther P99 question

Which caliber is the best to get P99 in? Is it just a caliber preference or there are some issues in particular caliber?

I've never heard of performance differences between 9mm and 40sw. But the .40s are slightly bigger in every aspect.

Actually, the .40 and 9 are the same size frame and slide, but the .40's slide has some slight physical differences. The 9mm has a slide cut on the sides towards the front that is reminiscent of a Hi-Power. The .40 model doesn't have this.

Because of these cuts, a kydex holster needs to be specific to the caliber of your P99, but you should not be able to tell the difference between calibers just by holding the gun.

I had a 1st Gen P99 in .40S&W. Great gun, absolutely tack-driver accurate, and an ergonomic dream to hold. The .40 is a bit snappy, but not painful. I ended up selling it because the only reason I want a .40 is for concealed carry, and I chose a S&W M&P40 Compact for that. If my P99 had been in 9mm, I'm sure I would still have it today.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.
