    1911 Gunsmith?

    Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any 1911 gunsmith's in the LA area that could do a novak cut on a colt government cut slide?

I just saw on a slightly different thread that Cifaldi Precision isn't taking anything due to COVID (I would actually want to give Cifaldi my money) but I also want to move forward with a project I'm doing on this.

    TIA!!

I used a smith for years and they retired...

Randall is in the valley- drive in and wait with an appointment a lot of the time

Alan Tanaka (Torrance)? He did some great stuff for me ~8 years ago.

I know Novak and Nighthawk are still accepting work. I remember hearing something about Springfield Armory Custom Shop accepting work again, but I have not looked into it that far.

The good thing about slide work is you can send the slide to anybody in America, as easy as dropping it in the mail.

I just sent my SA Mil Spec to Novak. Turn around time was reasonable.

Unless you need to keep the slide you have due to brand, it is cheaper just buy a pre-cut slide... Even in eBay.

Contact Novak or Nighthawk. Novak will prob be cheaper and faster. Will also depend on refinishing. But while the slide is out for work, consider what else you might want done to it since it will need refinishing anyway

I'm thinking about getting it refinished by either of the two.

I have an older colt series 70 government frame that I thought would be a good project gun. it's already aesthetically beat up so i thought it would be a good candidate for a project, so def not going to buy a new slide cause i don't need it

I recently contacted Novak for a build on an old colt. Believe they quoted 8 months right now

Guncrafter is accepting work. Try Evolution Armory also.

Hoping for a local Smith is DOA.

                            1911's are nothing like glocks.
Almost every part gets fitted to the slide to include the barrel, the bushing and the firing pin stop.
So when you replace a slide to get a new sight cut, you are also going to have to get ALL those other new parts and get them fitted.

It's WAY cheaper to just have a sight cut done when you consider the cost of all those other parts and the fitting work that it took to get them fitted.

The thing i was hoping to do was just get the frame refinished with the slide cut and just use Wilson drop in parts to finish the rest but I've been on the fence
