Why are Glocks more expensive used than new?

As the title says, do Glocks have magical powers that reverse the standard depreciation of a product? I have seen a lot of private parties selling used Glocks for consistently more than they go for in stores and people are buying them. Why is this?
And no it is not supply as they are readily in stock at many, many places. At least in San Diego.

Most places in San Diego are either out of stock or sell out of stock very fast. Also, are you considering just the weapon prices or does the seller include more items such as mags, holsters, night sights, etc.

Remember, some stores in our state add nearly 10% to the purchase price for tax. So that $550 gun is now $605 with tax.

Also, firearms don't really decline in price as you would think, unless they are badly abused or a HiPoint. =P

If you're thinking of them like used cars, think again. Just because the weapon has a few hundred rounds down the pipe doesn't mean it's going to sell for 20 - 50 percent less.

Glock owners are more excited about their glocks then the company is.

Can't explain that thought process but I've seen it before as well.

Well I have been seeing G17s going for 550+ a lot recently and come with what came with the gun new and nothing else. A good amount of stores carry them for 535 new. That extra bit of tax is worth it to me as I do not have to worry about what someone could have done to a firearm before I got it from them.
I realize firearms hold value rather well, but to increase in value after use for a standard model?

Don't know if it's the dealers or the manufacturers, but most handguns seem to have gone up 25% to 35% over the past eight months, so you may be thinking about last year's prices. Also, there's no policy on Calguns that you must have competitive prices for your sales. There's always ridiculously priced guns and ridiculous trades being offered out there. Capitalism, man.

People who price their USED Glocks more than retail don't really want to let go of their Glocks.

There are also buyers who can't wait for the 30 day grace period to buy another handgun, so they do PPT even if its a little bit more $.

are you sure you are comparing 'apples for apples'? for example, i have a bone stock G23, and I have a G23 with a trigger job, night sights, ext mag release and slide release. The bone stock G23 is NIB and worth 550. The other one is 12 years old and worth more..

that would be the first thing that i would verify. beyond that...buy the magical one...

For one, lots deals that have been seem in calgun market place those Glock come with extra mags, night sight...etc. Two, Glock hold its price really well (although that still should not be higher than NIB price). Three, don't forget NIB need to add around 10% sale tax now. Four, some time, seller just delusional and think we are still in the gun drought phase.

Nope. My prices are current as of last week. 535 is the price I keep seeing for bone stock G17 s. 550+ is what I see them being sold for used in bone stock configurations. I understand that there is no rule and I am not taking a stab at capitalism. I am just wondering why Glocks are always being offered for sale and sold above retail.

Comparing apples to apples yes. Bone stock to bone stock. Model to model. To me something like adding an extra magazine or some 30 dollar whatever does not justify a used gun selling for higher than the new price. I am still looking for the magical trolls to jump out and make it so it has never-ending magazines.

lol, just asking the obvious question...

a poster above said something worth thinking about. 535 + tax is still more than 550 otd, DROS notwithstanding.

maybe that has something to do with it?

good luck with that troll thing, though. If you find em, grab me one too...i am good for it
