Sig P226 owners [Question]

I'm considering a Sig Sauer purchase in the near future.
Mostly I've been an HK guy, but having shot and examined several friends P226s (.40 cal)
I must say, I'm impressed, and it feels great in my hand.

So, here is the question, I've shot the standard and the Sig DAK modification, and must say, I'm really all about getting one with a DAK trigger. That being said, I may have the opportunity to purchase an "Elite Dark" which apparently has all the bells and whistles of the Sig P226 DAK, and then some.
The only issue here is price. the "Elite Dark" is quite a few hundred dollars more.

Is it worth it? Does anyone have one or both? I can't really find a good side by side review anywhere.

I may have an opportunity to buy the Elite in a PPT.
(May being the operative word)

So I'm just collecting data. Basically do I jump on it and grab it, or just kick back and get the P226 DAK at a later date...

Per sig's website it comes with the following that my regular plain vanilla 226r doesn't come with

- SRT (i'm thinking about getting this, but really want to try one before dumping the cash)
- beavertail (blah, could care less. Only one of my pistols needs the beavertail)
- threaded barrel option for the 9mm. not legal in cali.
- aluminum grip panels. Not that big of a deal. I'm going to go get the g10 scales for mine instead.
- adjustable rear night sites. Again, not a big deal. I have fixed night sites right now, and they work just fine.

MSRP difference of $150.

The SRT would make it worth it. But for me, the Aluminum handles (imagine them hot or cold) and beavertail aren't that big of a deal breaker for me.


Then again, do what I always recommend when someone asks about a pistol. Shoot it. if YOU like it, then YOU buy it. Not me.

Wow, cool. Reminds me of HK's version of their USP Tactical. (Picture shown looks like a P229R)

Since we can't use TBs and the sights are useless, it may be more cost effective to get a P226R with SRT kit (possible to obtain through SIGForum).

^^^ srt on sigforum? I'm going to have to keep an eye on that. I'm putting my order in for the g10 scales and short trigger with TGS right now.

I used to carry H&K pistols, but I don't have any now. I don't know about other Sig models, but I have a regular P226 in 9mm and P220R. I like both and they feel very comfortable in my hands. That is all I need.

I haven't put much time behind the p226, but the few times I've shot my friends I felt the same way. It was very comfortable.
So I'm definitely edging towards picking one up.
Plus, .40 is a bit easier to get than .45 right now (and cheaper)

Probably not worth it, no use for the beavertail with DAK as there is zero hammer bite and the little hump on the grip will prevent you from getting a nice deep grip like other pistols.

Without the threaded barrel you're just paying extra for black grips!

I own a P226R DAK.

It depends on your personality.

The Elite is worthless to me. I prefer DAK, so SRT trigger is moot.
I don't want beaver tail since it's just added bulk and weight that does not help with anything and I don't even like the looks of it.
I just like dark gray color, so the dark earth color is not attractive either.
But, that's my preference.

Either will hit targets well with a competent shooter. If I want an SRT, I'd rather get a plain model and get it installed.
