    Colt 1911 Recall

Nothing came up on a search of the forum but I just saw this on Colt's website:

Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC has determined that the Slide Lock Safety and the Recoil Spring Guide Pad in certain Colt model pistols were not manufactured to Colt specifications and must be replaced. All of these Colt models were sold after March 2007 and the range of serial numbers affected by this product recall is as follows:

    1911 WWI Replica (O1911) From: 4597WMK To: 5414WMK
    1918 WWI Replica (O1918) From: 1001WWI To: 3431WWI
    New Agent (O7810D) From: GT01001 To: GT04505
    Combat Elite (O8011XSE) From: CG10000E To: CG11293E
    Defender (O7000D) From: DR33036 To: DR35948
Talo Night Defender (O7000NDF) From: NDF0001 To: NDF0400
Here is the link to the site for a shipping label and here for the complete recall notice.

My Colt New Agent is within that serial number range. Interesting...What to do...

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and sent my info for their return package.
The New Agent has two items they need to upgrade. One, the spring guide pad has been mentioned
in the past on ColtForum as being a problem because of breakage. Nice to see Colt finally agrees.

Is Colt really going to pick up the shipping tab for the pistol? You would think just sending the slide stop and recoil spring guide will be so much cheaper.

In my case, they want the whole pistol shipped back. If you have the Defender model they will send the parts out to you.

The recoil spring guide is almost certainly a drop in, the slide stop is more like a "could be/should" be drop in. I'd figure a Colt made slide stop for a Colt gun is more of the "should be" persuasion, but there might be some fitting to ensure smooth function, magazine function.

I've switched out a few & sometimes a little fitting is required.

If you go to the recall notice it's the safety not the slide stop so it would need to be fitted. Mark

I received the 'call tag' from Colt to ship my New Agent back. I am a bit surprised that the call tag shows Colt only applied for $100 of insurance on the package. As we all know, the value is substantially higher than that. We also know how firearms tend to disappear in shipping. I have left a voice mail for the individual that signed the letter for more information.

Edit to add: I received a call back from Colt. The declared $100 value printed on the label is used to keep the thieves at bay. Colt insures it for the full replacement cost. Basically it's to keep prying eyes from thieving high value insurance items.

Second edit: Out of my hands for only 5 days including Saturday and Sunday. Very clean job and no extra wear n tear was applied to the pistol by Colt. Excellent job overall!

Wow! Slide lock safety is the name? That confirms I'm old school. Definitely need to get the thumb safety lock fitted, I've done a few of those to know how important it is to have a proper functioning safety.

i don't know what you're getting at but the thumb safety does indeed lock the slide in place so you can't rack the slide with the gun on safe.
