    Glock Chasis

This new product from Recover Tactical looks awesome. Question is, will this require a mag lock in CA. I want to say, since the mag is technically in the grip of the handgun that it does not.

Convert your pistol into an AR Platform with P-IX+. Compatible with many Glock models including the Glock 17, Glock 19x, Glock 45, Glock 22 and more.

Looks too cool to get in California. I'll wait for someone smarter than me to explain why this is illegal here.

If the magazine is outside of the pistol grip, that is an assault weapon.

The pistol grip will be the grip that you hold the firearm with and pull the trigger while holding with only 1 hand.
If that thing wraps around a glock pistol frame in such a way that you can no longer grip the glock's pistol grip, then you no longer get to call the glock's pistol grip as the pistol grip because it's no longer accessible to hold.

Basically, if you are not wrapping your trigger actuating hand around the magazine while firing with 1 hand, then the magazine is outside of the pistol grip.

If you hold it with 2 hands on two different grips, it's not a handgun so you can't say that because your non-firing hand can hold that 2nd grip where the magazine is that your magazine is not outside the pistol grip...

It has a separate pistol grip and uses a detachable magazine located outside of the pistol grip. You'd have to mag lock it and use only a 10 round mag. Just like AR Pistols today.

        From https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/regs/genchar2

        4. A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:

        (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.

        (B) A second handgrip.

        (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.

        (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.

        5. A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

Mag lock it and ditch the stock.

Interesting. The above explanations explain why several gun stores in my area are selling the CAA Roni and Roni Micro chassis and saying it is legal even though some of the experts here said otherwise. I guess they are saying that despite the surface area to do grab it with a second hand there is no "second grip" on their version of it, and that magazine still inserts into the Glock's grip. Or maybe they are maglocking it? The one they were selling did not have the stock.

RSR used to stock the Roni's. Not showing up for me anymore.

              Yeah but.....

Glockstore used to sell them in SD (as I recall), but I see now they say otherwise.

That was because CA DOJ BOF told them to stop selling them and to take down their assembled sample, due to it being an illegal assault weapon and to avoid having their CA dealer status revoked.

CA assault weapons laws for pistol...
A "second handgrip" is any grip or surface, that is not the main grip of the pistol, that is textured or intended for the support hand to utilize in assisting to support or stabilize the pistol.

Current summary for a Roni style chassis in CA:

Regardless if it has an arm stabilizing brace or not...

By itself (not attached to anything), it is CA legal.

When attached to airsoft, it is CA legal.

When attached to a manually operated single-shot pistol, it is CA legal.

When attached to a manually operated repeating pistol, it is CA legal.

When attached to a semi-auto pistol with a fixed 10 or less round magazine, it is CA legal.

When attached to a semi-auto pistol that does not have a fixed magazine, it is CA illegal (felony) assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(4)(B)]
