So I have always replaced my stock handgun sites with tritium night sites. Never even considered a fiber optic front sight. Over the weekend, I went into a local shop to check out some pistols and there was a CZ with a red fiber optic front site. Not sure why it came that way stock, but I am in love. What is your favorite sight configuration? I'm thinking of going with a red fiber optic front and blacked out rear on my next pistol.

What is your favorite sight configuration? I'm thinking of going with a red fiber optic front and blacked out rear on my next pistol.- No optics - Red fiber optic front, all black rear. Sights serrated if possible, and cut for one-handed manipulations. Depending on either tactical or competition use - the width of the front sight is different, etc.
- With optics - all black (no outlines, etc.) for front and rear with Tritium inserts.
Search other threads - a few discourses on why the single color fiber optic front and blacked out rear are the choice for speed/accuracy in both competition and defensive use.

My preferred comes with a large caveat. I’m legally blind. Even with glasses or contacts, I find my eyesight struggling at times. Dawson precision f/o front. Blacked out rear with serrations. I don’t really know how Dawson does it, but they produce fiber optic fronts thats are extremely consistent, bright, and usable. Also, they have endless options when it comes to height. This can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to begin, but their customer service is impeccable. At one time they recommended trijicon when I needed a setup that they didn’t offer.
That said, sights depend on what you’re up to. Personally, I like to run an RMR on my defense pistols. Home defense/ccw etc.
For fun at the range with my 1911’s…I prefer my blacked out rear and front fiber optic.
You might consider tritium night sights, and if so, yellow rear/green front is a nice touch. But again, I’m blind, lol. So that kind of things really helps.
With an RMR, I’d recommend no tritium, no fiber optic. Blacked out. Just be sure to run a very dependable optic if using for home defense.Comment

Will be going to rds with blacked out sights.
I use a light on all pistols. Currently have night sights in everything, with the rear blacked out (sharpie).
If I restarted, without rds, I'd run fiber front and black rear.Comment

I dig the fiber optic front and blackout rear. I used to have the red, but have switched over to the green insert.
There was also an excellent tip from someone in this forum about placing a piece of foil in the fiber optic channel (i.e., under the actual rod) if you need it to be brighter.

I have Dawson red fiber optic front and blacked-out-serrated rear on my G17. They made a huge difference in my accuracy.
As noted above, Dawson's customer service is top drawer.

For competition guns, I use a red fiber optic front and blacked out rear sights. So I have always replaced my stock handgun sites with tritium night sites. For my carry guns, I use a red fiber optic front and green fiber optic rear sights.
My nightstand gun has tritium night sights.Anchors Aweigh

Fiber optics are great during daylight, and at the beginning of dawn and end of dusk. But for dawn and dusk low light night sights are much better. That is when they "shine". So if you are not running a red dot, and not planning to run night vision, and plan to carry the gun...then night sights are in my opinion best. If you have enough moonlight, or other ambient sources that let you distinguish between the front and rear sights they are great at night as well. But in pitch black...irons aren't great no matter what you have.
The reason I say night sights are not ideal for red dot equipped guns is that during low light conditions they will be competing for your attention. You can train out of it, but why do that to yourself if you don't have to? Maybe for some it's not an issue. But it is generally accepted that all blacked out or fiber optics rule here.
It's pretty well established that night sights and night vision are a no go. Irons are useless with night vision. The point of focus is further out. The sights are blurred big time. Night sights under night vision cause big blobby starburst like dots that can block your IR laser or red dot and just confuse the heck out you. Especially at speed under stress. Either all blacked out irons or fiber optic sights are best here. Red dots or IR lasers will be how you aim with night vision.Last edited by tacticalcity; 12-24-2021, 4:49 AM.Comment

You would not have enough light to positively ID the bad guy and/or surroundings (4th Safety Law). You will then need a WML and/or handheld light. These will wash out the Tritiums and make them look like iron sights.
Mine may be anecdotal - but never had issues between my night sights competing with my red dot. Never felt it impaired my speed nor accuracy. And no - never had to train "out of it" - I just target focus and Tritiums "disappear."The reason I say night sights are not ideal for red dot equipped guns is that during low light conditions they will be competing for your attention. About 2-weeks back, came back from training where I ran my G21SF Gen 3 with Ameriglo 1X sights with Tritiums (no outlines) and the 3.25MOA Type 2 RMR. Absolutely no issues.
This is one of the drills we did - low light hostage shots...
