Calif Handgun list oversight - again

OK - So the XD9801 (XD9) is on the approved for sale DOJ list. The XDD9801 (also an XD9) is not on the list so no one wants to sell it.

Per an email from Springfield Armory - the GUN in the XD9801 and the GUN in XDD9801 are the same gun.

The only difference is the XD9801 SKU comes with 2 magazines and the XDD9801 SKU only comes with 1.

This is another example of the DOJ list not having all the facts.

I have asked the DOJ to look at this and hopefully will receive some sort of reply.

To the DOJ this is a feature not a bug.

DOJ and facts in the same sentence.

The Double D version is banned in California.

Man this State has really lost its identity.

        Figures.

Did SA submit both for certification? If not, the DOJ has little to do with it (well, no more so than any other pistol not on the roster)

I'm confused. OP stated the on roster comes with two magazines, non-roster has one. If the ONLY difference is the number of magazines included, wouldn't you want two instead of one?

Most good FFLs are not going to have a problem with this. Good FFLs do not go by SKU alone. Because if they only went by the SKU on the box, they could easily be tricked into processing an off roster gun.

So contact your FFL and go from there if you want to order one

If one is available right now and one is not available for 6 months, you want the one that is available right now.

Or if one has a rebate or is on sale and the other one isn't, and the savings is worth way more than a magazine is, then you want the best deal

Again, this SKU difference is not a problem. The gun inside the box is what matters - not the sticker on the box or how many magazines come inside the box.

I've come to realize that when you ask the DOJ a question the answer will invariably be "no, sorry".

Me: Can I get some clarification on why I failed my last DROS?
                    DOJ: No, sorry.

In the world of administrative agencies the answer of choice is always no.
