    Sig Frame Replacement?

I know that Sig has and excellent warranty that warrants firearms for life against defects. So, hypothetically, if the frame of a P226 or P220 were to crack, or the firearm control unit of a P320 or P365 were to crack, to the point where it couldn't be repaired, and had to be replaced, would Sig send you a new frame with a new serial number hence having to go through an FFL, or would it be possible for Sig to destroy the frame and reassign the same serial number to a new frame or FCU thereby allowing it to be shipped back directly to you? The reason why I'm wondering is because unfortunately in California a lot, the majority actually, of Sig's models are not available for purchase through an FFL because of the absurd safe handgun roster. However, if you're able to find a gun that has already been brought into the state by someone else, typically out-of-state residents who just moved here and purchased new guns prior to coming here, possibly to re-sell them at a hefty premium, you can purchase the gun. As such, I'm wondering what would happen if the frame cracks because I don't want to pay 600%-800% over MSRP to then not be able to retake possession of the firearm if it goes out to get repaired and it has to be shipped back to an FFL, in which case the FFL wouldn't be able to transfer the gun back to me because it's not on the safe gun roster.

Sig in theory could reissue a serial number. But for a hundred reasons - they won't. You can forget that idea right now. It isn't happening. If your off roster serialized "firearm" piece gets damaged beyond repair, you are SOL in this state.

Plenty of people have found this out in real life. If it happens, you will be offered something from the roster as a replacement.

Ah, that sucks. I know one company that did offer to reissue the same serial number for an off-roaster handgun, that's why I was wondering about Sig. So what happens in the scenario that I described is that you get offered something else that is on the California roster? And you know this from personal experience?

      Thanks!

Yes, the above guy is correct. I sent my p320 in for the voluntary recall. Their armorer ****ed up. Ended up getting a new p220 sent to me to replace it because I couldn't get a new p320. It sucks, but it is what it is

You get lucky if you get offered an on-Roster handgun as a replacement, some manufacturers will only offer credit for use on their online store (parts, accessories, merchandise) because they do not have any on-Roster handguns.

Yeah, that sucks. Can't Sig just melt the FCU and reissue the same serial number to ship back directly to you?

I had a 220 x5 that had non repairable damage. Sig was very good to me. They gave me 2 220 pistols as replacement.

But you had to re-DROS them? Different series numbers?

They were 2 new guns with new serial numbers that had to be registered.

Wow - did they ever explain exactly what happened? How do you screw up one of those fire control units?

How many rounds does it take to make a SIG frame crack?

Enjoy and be proficient with your SIG. Don't forget the maintenance.

If it cracks, write-it off, sell the usable parts, and MOVE ON.

Life is too short to worry about your SIG.

I think I would prefer a gift card over a CA compliant anything.

Not sure if this is relevant but just thought id share...
Had a Glock 34 Gen 3 frame that had a crack above the 3rd pin. Sent it in and got a replacement Glock 34 Gen 3 but new serial number, and had to DROS. All in all out the DROS fee and time.
