    Every CA 1911

About two months ago I made a video that covered every 1911 on the CA handgun roster. It loosely covers them all, and is certainly not for those well educated on what 1911’s are on the roster. However, enough people have contacted me about it, so I thought I’d share it here. Plugs can be very cringey, so hopefully this isn’t too bad.

Of the 1911’s offered on the roster, what do you think is the best value? Or rather, what do you prefer? Are there any to stay away from?

In my research I couldn’t really find if the Springfield Custom is still offered? The Roster website doesn’t have it. Also, Guncrafter industries and SVI…I never see these for sale in our highly controlled state of California. Has anyone seen them lately?

For value, and in my experience....the Rock Island GI and Pro Match Ultra FS.

I especially like that they are devoid of firing pin blocking safety, a true " series 70 " set up, and the size of the firing pin is the regular .45 acp for the .45 acp models. Unlike some of the more expensive 1911 with a .38 super or 9 mm size firing pin.

For an American brand production level, I like the Kimber brand and its model line up.

Best value is RIA, but requires changing out the springs with WC kit
and a drop-in match barrel. Second would be Springfield, next Wilson.

I'm fine with my Kimber Custom II and Springfield Armory Loaded both in .45 ACP.

I thank you for all the hard work.

I agree with many here that also state SA Loaded for under $1K and Dan Wesson for mid-range. My Colt mid-80's Commander is nice but I don't like the base sights. I'm not a fan of base guns without good sights, extended beaver tails, and ditch the spur triggers.

I always wondered why some of the bigger gun stores in California didn't make a video like this but about every semi automatic pistol that's currently available on the California roster.

Anyways I'm glad you did and I thank you for all the time and work you put into this.

When I do finally get around to getting a 1911, my first pick would be the Pro Match RIA - all I would want to change would be to ditch the full length guide rod and the ambidextrous safety.

That is what I have. Bought it and took delivery from Sportsman's Warehouse in Fairfield, two months prior to the pandemic lock down last year.

The slide/frame fitting is superb. There is no front cocking serration on the slide and the rear serration is the fine vertical classic set up. I changed the FLGR to a GI setup, and replaced the ambidextrous thumb safety to one side only. I also replaced the stock grips to a darker shade of Cocobolos.

                          Its a keeper.

My Ed Brown Special Forces is my favorite 1911. I think the best value is Les Baer if it will be the only 1911 you own.
