Anyone in San Diego or Riverside have a PDP 5"? Free Private Range Day + Pics

    Hi

I have a PPQ Q5 Match with a RMR and Apex trigger I'd like to compare with the PDP 5".

I would be willing to pay for your range day, give you 1 box of free ammo and supply Shoot'N'See targets if you were willing to meet up for a shoot at the Rainbow Range right off the 15 freeway. (they have a bunch of steel from 25-50 yards as well) You are also welcome to shoot any of the other firearms I bring. (22, 9, 45, 223, 12ga)

I usually spend a couple hours there shooting pistols, rifles and shotguns on multiple ranges so you could come for just the pistols or bring other firearms and enjoy the other ranges.

Please PM if interested, thanks and have a great day

    Matt

I went to the range today and took a couple pics

    Pistol Range: 15, 25, 35 and 50 yard targets

Trap and Skeet Range: need to be a member of the Trap Club to use the house - you can set up your own targets at the very back if not in use

Instructors and 30 yard Archery Ranges

Falling Plate Range: it's close so lead only

22lr Range: dueling trees, hangers, knock downers and rebounders

I'll give this a few bumps in hopes that someone is willing to meet up for a free range day.

Rainbow Range & Gun Club is a small private range right off the I15 freeway 1 exit south of Temecula.

There are 9 different ranges and an archery area. I have had the entire range to myself on more than one Sunday afternoon and it's the most peaceful and enjoyable shooting I've ever had.

Wow that is a beautiful range, especially if you have it to yourself.

I can say with experience that the PDP and Q5 Match (poly or steel) have the same trigger feel, weight, pre-travel and reset. They use the same sear assembly from the PPQ M1 all the way up to the PDP.

My data pool is from sharing the range with my friend who has the 5" PDP and the Q5 Poly compared to my P99 and Q5 Steel Frame. Even swapped guts around and really they are no different in my personal opinion

              Thanks for the info

The stock PPQ trigger is outstanding but I prefer the Apex Forward Set Trigger. (if you haven't you should) People are saying the PDP trigger is a little better but the only difference is one spring so I can agree with your findings.

When I got to the range this morning there was only 2 guys at the rifle range and 1 at the pistol. By the time I left all the pistol bays were full so it's all about timing. There's a 15 foot section to the side of the pistol bays for draw firing, so if all the lanes are full you can still shoot off to the side.

To be frank I wasn't all that impressed with the Q5 SF Trigger when I got mine. I wasn't the only person to complain about the creepiness the trigger had out of the box. I almost went the Overwatch Precision route, and then my friend gifted me the Walther Expert Trigger last year. I can confidently say the Expert Trigger can give a tuned 1911 trigger a run for it's money.

Hmm, I've never even heard of the "Walther Expert Trigger". Once I tried the Apex in a friends M2, I bought one and have been more than happy with it.

Everyone that has tried it is very impressed as well. It's a drop in bar w/pad and does exactly what they state it does.

Reduce overall travel by approx. 40%
                  Shorten reset
                  Smooth uptake and reset
                  Deliver a crisp trigger break
                  Maintain factory drop safety values
Direct drop-in replacement, no fitting required

                  Thanks again for the info

Just looked up the Walther Expert Trigger and WOW!

Even though I'm more than happy with the Apex, I just might have to get one of those.

                    Steel Frame SKU# 2841037
                    Polymer Frame SKU# 2841070

Have you measured the pull weight or know how low it adjusts to? I like the crisp break and hard reset of the Apex but I know I can group better with a lower weight trigger.

                    Thanks again

                    Matt

Edit: looks like Walther won't sell the trigger, LAME and a bummer because it looks like a definite upgrade

Romeo, is that the same or similar to the dynamic performance trigger?

There is a different spring (PDP has more windings and is bronze coloured), but also something in the disconnector is different. With the slides off, it feels different. When the Q5 starts to move the disconnector, it adds resistance. With the PDP, I don't feel anything.

I haven't tried the Apex trigger. I might look into it, depending on what I eventually do with the Q5 (I got the PDP to replace it). I want to try the PDP in a couple matches before I migrate over completely. I also wisely got the full size PDP, which doesn't work will the PPQ mags I have and I can't find extra mags yet.
